Professional Presentation
« on: May 10, 2023, 07:50:41 pm »
I was looking through The Official Manual for Operating in the SPSV Industry (Ed. 71, 2018) for something else and found this little paragraph on 'Professional Presentation" on page 71.  Might be useful to some as the weather improves  :-X

Professional presentation
An SPSV driver’s attire and personal presentation is as important as the cleanliness and tidiness of their vehicle in portraying a professional image. Drivers should dress in such a way that their professionalism is immediately apparent to all prospective passengers.

Clothing should be smart, clean and comfortable. SPSV drivers may be required to pick up or drop off passengers and luggage in locations such as hotels or office buildings, where more formal dress is expected and items of clothing such as shorts, vest tops or tracksuits are inappropriate.

I guess it could open to interpretation whether you 'should' or you 'must' dress professionally.  Has anyone every got a ticket for wearing a tracksuit or shorts?  What about those trendy shorts that go down to the knees?

Could you get away with going barefoot since it's not mentioned?  Or worser, hippie sandals with socks  >:D

Pot-bellied porkers in shorts are a seasonal norm on the OMNI rank. Add to that, tracksuits and trainers from the formal wear section of JD Sports.

Remember, there are only 25  so-called compliance officers, who appear to be a light-touch regulation operation.

I wouldn't worry too much about sartorial elegance. 8)

I reckon that it is pretty apparent to all prospective passengers that if they see a fat middle aged or elder man in a trackie that he is indeed a professional Taxi driver !

You can get into any bar or restaurant in Dublin in runners. That wasn't the case twenty years ago. There are kids working in Google getting 100k plus a year and they dress like students.

In the current economy where it's hard enough to get a taxi I doubt passengers  care much what we wear as long as they get picked up.

Putting drivers in slacks and shirts and shoes doesn't make them any better at their jobs.If the passengers want a limo driver they just order one.

Lymp rental drivers wear a uniform, and I think cab 2000. Even Blue cabs sold uniforms to the drivers they worked for, while they themselves were financially on their knees. Sure isn't that how RC earned his name with C2K after being reported by Swords driver for not being suitably attired, that or simply partaking of a fag?
