« on: June 07, 2023, 10:48:22 am »
I'm hearing of all the long waits fer NCT and Taxi license renewal (LRA/suitability). ??

I rang to book NCT last Thursday afternoon in Cork and got Sun morning at 10am.
I rang to book LRA this morning and was offered 5pm TODAY or 8.30am TOMORROW.

There's no delay if you ring the taxi line.... similar for motor dealers who also have a "dedicated" line.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I passed both tests Thx B 2 God !

At suitability I had a year old first aid kit which was sealed in a transparent plastic wrapper which was bought at 24 hour mechanic in Dooblin last year (Thanks Hal), I left it out in the boot of the cab along with all the other stuff but the transparent plastic wrapper seal around it was never broken at the suitability test.

Done NCT in Northpoint/Ballymun last Friday. They sell various first aid kits if anyone is stuck for bandages on suitability.

I bought a first aid kit from Mechanic 24 last year that's good till 2026(I think) but was in Lidl a while back and they had them for 6 or 7 bucks good till 2028 so I thought it would be rude not to purchase one.

I THINK that if you have a morning booking you can show up anytime earlier in the MORNING and the same with an afternoon booking, you can show up early as long as it is AFTERNOON, I THINK !

I'm not too sure about the motor dealers bit. When I bought me last part-worn during covid in July 2020 the NCT was about 9 months old and I had to request a more recent NCT from the Toyota main dealer, he agreed and offered to pay fer it saying he would get back to me about the date.
He rang the next day telling me very proudly that he had managed to secure an NCT in 10 days time.
Not being very impressed I made a few phone calls and rang the dealer back saying; "Your booked in fer 8.30am tomorrow morning, .... be there !".

It was a young Asian lad that tested my car too last weekend, I asked him (after passing and with form in hand) would the car pass if the DPF light was on ?
He hadn't a clue about what I was asking and referred me to an elder Irish supervisor !

Drogheda is great... never a queue, very efficient and friendly.

10 months is closer to the waiting time for private motorists, Ken. Some dealers have better relationships than others. I have a neighbour who knocks out previously stolen Japanese cars he buys up above in Dublin - apparently Jap cars have no immobilisers, at least the ones with key turn ignitions so are popular with joyriders - and he can usually get tests whenever he wants them.... I don't think he even needs an appointment but not 100% on that!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
