How often do you think you should change the taxi?
« on: June 22, 2023, 10:34:38 pm »
Next one I buy will be probably 4 to 5 years old but with low mileage 30,000 or less.

I think I will keep it for 3 years maybe, then get rid, after 3 years the big repair bills start coming in I think.

60 Euro a week .When it costs more change it .When you buy it is costs about 3K or 60 Euro per week to own thats 3kX9 =27000 the cost of an average new motor .If you buy part worn its still around 3k a year 4 year old car cost 15K 5 years left so 3K a year .I own the thing I am driving paid 11K 4 years ago .Might need a Clutch so still under 3K to keep on the road .The cost of replacing it would average 3K a year .So as long as it costs less than 3K per year to keep it it makes economic sense to fix it .

When I buy something I make it point to learn what will break on it and learn how to fix it.With basic maintenance you can keep any vehicle as long as you want without spending massive money.

No point bragging about earnings if yer handing it back to the mechanic or car dealer every few years for a trade in.Some drivers would be just better off renting IMO.

You would be doing very well to get it to 15 years old though, very well.

anyone know anyone who has a wheelchair taxi with no age limit? I do but he seems to have left the game.

Whats specifically could break that would force ya to take a taxi off the road prematurely?

If the maintence is being done properly the vehicle should last.

Just the fear that it breaks down with passengers on the way to the airport or something.

when my battery alternator went I lost the power steering, I hope that never happens again while im working, last time I wasnt working when it went.

I fully respect that you are good with your car tools MFH, but the new cars are built (IMO) to keep amateur or even professional non-dealer mechanics away from them, they all have way too many sensors/computers that only a main dealer can access ??
