Square VAT
« on: August 31, 2023, 01:16:16 pm »
I see square take VAT from every transaction. is this ok or is there a way to not pay VAT? I think when I used sum up there was an option not to pay VAT.

NO THEY DONT you just dont have it set right .You need to read the instructions and set the VAT @0 .If you take VAT from a fare you will be jailed for Fraud .We covered this before .The VAT facility is there for shops to Imput the cost and the mackine adds the tax that way shops can printout their transactions with the VAT already done for them .It is a facility beyound our usage ..Try input 10 euro fare and see what it takes from the Card .

I checked a 10 euro fare I took a few days ago. it took 4 cent in VAT.

the customer isnt getting ripped off though, the meter would have said 10 euro so im just doing myself out of money.

Something wrong there there is no .004 Vat rate .So its not VAT its something else read their charges .You cannot charge the Customer any EXTRA  other than the metered fare .Give the instructions and T&C a good coat of looking over .If it took 10.04 from the customer its fraud .

It took the 4 cent from me, not the customer. the taxi meter said 10 euro, the customer paid 10 euro, square took 4 cent "VAT" plus 18 cent.

it is me paying them 22 cent, not the customer.

So they are charging you 1.8% on transactions and then on top of that you pay the VAT on the service they provided you bringing the headline cost to 2.2% .It looks like they are charging you VAT on their service to you .I wonder if that is an introduction offer they say different in their blurb I posted .Keep an eye on it .

Seems very expensive compared to Sumup.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I might buy another sum up card reader and see if it works, then use square for emergencies.

I'm using this : https://www.mypos.com/en-ie/buy-card-machine?utm_campaign=ireland_brand&utm_content=mypos&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9MCnBhCYARIsAB1WQVV-No76YSVTB42en4kzBarRIe6QxqMUnGpmz4TMPUSruiH6S8Hh48EaAoBXEALw_wcB ...as well as the Sum up. I find the Sum-up signal to be erratic.

MyPOS fares can be withdrawn from the bank at the end of a shift if you're so inclined. 1.69% commission.

Getting set up was a bit of a pain in the hoop, but now Alles Gut! 8)

I just looked at one of my square statements and I paid €1.06 on €48.80, which works out at 2.2%.  The €1.06 has a little note --> Includes Square processing fees, third-party fees and VAT on fees. There were no other deductions etc, just those 2 numbers on the statement...

Others have mentioned sumup.  I used it for ages but eventually couldn't trust it to work reliably.  So I moved to Square and it works all the time.  There's pennies in the different commission rates between the two but one works 100% of the time and one doesn't!
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.
