Presidential attendance at a funeral

Will this be a common occurrence, the President of the Republic of Ireland attending the funerals of RTC victims?
126 fatalities so far this year.

I'd understand if it was a Healy-Rae, but the President?

Is it a political stunt preying on the vulnerabilities of bereaved families?

President Michael D Higgins visited Zoey’s family on Friday evening to express his sympathies, as did Minister for Education Norma Foley. President Higgins was represented at Saturday’s funeral mass by his aide-de-camp, Col Stephen Howard.

I would be of the opinion that the bereaved would hardly recognise them---but that said at least they went to the bother--the sadness of it all is overwhelming ---anyone with kids would understand --my youngest is 32 .with 34 and 38 before him and I still worry every day as to their safety----ditto with their offspring !
