Cocaine in Cork.
« on: September 27, 2023, 05:34:02 am »
This may well turn out to be the Greatest cocaine seizure ever and only caught because some idiot amateur sailor/smuggler drove his trawler in to a sand-bank off the Wexford coast which alerted the authorities.

TBF the Gardai and Army did a good job, I myself don't relish the opportunity to be winched OFF a helicopter and on to a moving hostile South American cargo ship during challenging waters.

If you spent 10 or 15 years of your professional life training to do that, you'd probably think 'about fukking time!'   ;D

I took the photo in total darkness last night with no flash, I'm very surprised it came out so well.

Certainly the biggest haul ever in Ireland Ken.
The lads weren`t winched onto the ship, they slid down a thick rope onto the deck. Fast roping it`s called.

Word on the street suggests the KOCG is likely to assist Putin in eradicating at least 2 Ukrainians.

Second €75 million cocaine boat destined for Europe seized in mid-Atlantic

Quote
The latest operation involved the US Drug Enforcement Administration, the Spanish Navy and Portuguese police.

DEA passed information of an attempt being made to transfer a large amount of cocaine from one ship to another on the high seas, according to a Spanish National Police statement.

Portuguese authorities had similar information and a decision was made to quickly intercept the fishing boat before it could off-load its €75 million cargo.

The patrol ship ‘Fulmar’ intercepted the drug runners in the Atlantic 600 miles from Cape Verde and permission sought from the Guyana authorities to seize the boat and bring to the nearest Spanish port.

Forty bales of cocaine hydrochloride were found on the stern deck and all six crew members arrested and transferred to the ‘Fulmar’ which made for Arrecife, Lanzarote.

Thanks Bubba, I was wondering what 'Fast Roping' meant.
Still 'n all I wouldn't fancy doing it in challenging seas on to a moving hostile South American drug boat ??

Now the problems start with the MV Matthew, it changed name mid voyage and is now owned by Matthew maritime Inc since last July/August, which is a 1 ship operation which I'm guessing is actually owned by nobody only some alias corporation.

2 men have been charged from the 25 crew on-board + the Wexford trawler but I think it will be hard to make charges actually stick on any of the 25 crew (I hope I'm wrong). As fer the owner of the vessel or whom put the drugs on the ship, that's another days work.

In the end Cork harbour is stuck with a huge Fookin cargo ship tied up in red tape fer years that will prob be a rust bucket worth nothing by the time it ever gets released.

From RTE NEWS;
Documents show that Matthew Maritime Inc bought the bulk carrier ship on 10 August. The vessel had been renamed nine days prior, matching the company details, as MV Matthew.

Matthew Maritime Inc is a 'one-ship' company, meaning the vessel is the company's only asset.

"It's something that you see commonly in ships that are basically up to no good. It's kind of a recognised phenomenon. A lot of US vessel arrests, they've spoken about how common it is for a one-ship company to be the suspects in the case," said Mr Galvin.

The specific Marshall Islands shelf-company address provided by the company has also been used previously by US-sanctioned shipping companies, Mr Galvin added.

The Marshall Islands company registration process requires company owners to declare minimal details, meaning it is almost impossible for researchers to determine who is the true owner of the company.

Maybe by capturing this huge drug haul we have created an even bigger problem.

Fer starters the over-time bill fer Gardai, Army rangers, Naval services, Revenue officers.
And add on the solicitors and barristers fees fer the 25 crew members who will ALL obviousely "No Nothing", prob not have a word of english between them requiring translators and all be entitled to free legal aid, add on the court costs and that surely is up to another €2.2 Million, and that's only the warm-up, we are still stuck with the Fookin ship currently on a 24-hour armed guard with Docking fees that has No owner and tied up in so much red tape that it can prob never be sold.

Us the taxpayer could be looking at a €5 million+ bill before all this is settled !
