Why are you asking for a price ?

I tell them where I'm going and they say because it's busy, it's €100 euro for a 5 minute trip.

Is that when you are sitting in the car or what.
Do they not have taxi meters?

No, it is before I get in the taxi.

They have meters but some of them think they can pick their own price. It's crazy, like the NTA fine irish drivers €200 for not taking card, like that's a big crime and these spanish guys can ask for €75 for a €18 fare.

To be fair any self-respecting keshie would be disgusted with €75.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Wait till ya come to Cork !, Taxi doors locked, window down, "Where ya going ?", if it doesent suit exactly they refuse.
If it does happen to suit the next question is "Card or Cash ?", if they say 'Card', the Taxi driver refuses.

Saw a Dublin taxi today with a big 'cash is king' sign facing outwards, beside his dashboard ID.  A nod is as good as a wink, I guess  ::)

It's weird how taxis refuse card, its not as if every customer is paying by card. I'm sure they can take card the odd time.

I have no problem taking a card payment.

If you were an honest taxi over here you would do well I'd say. Word would get around that you use the meter and all the hotels would want you to drop customers to wherever they are going. Good airport trips etc.

Sounds like the honest guy would have to do 3 or 4 airport runs to make the same as the bogey who does 1 run for the rip-off price.  Maybe he goes to confession while the honest guy is on his 3rd or 4th run  O:-)

Yeah but the honest guy can sleep easy at night. I had an old retired Dublin taxi tell me lately that he always drove passengers all over the place for no reason but to rip them off. Imagine bragging about robbing people, he only gave me a 20 cent tip as well but obviously I didn't expect anything more from someone like him. He said his son is in prison and a drug addict, see what I said about karma.

There is a guy like that in my local town, a real bad apple, locals always skip him at the taxi rank, he charged a young lad €90 one night for a €25 trip.

There is another one not too far from me, she is famous for overcharging, a €20 fare is €40, €300 is €400 etc

The nta know all about her but she is still working away. Is our job a bit like the civil service, unless you kill someone you can't loose your job?

Dangerous practice though, them lads probably wouldn't think twice about pushing a drunk from their taxi and driving off with their wallet.

I hope they die roaring.
