Driver fined after taxi is written off after crash with carelessly-driven cab

Quote
A taxi driver crashed into another cab with three passengers on board after carelessly driving through a red light at a junction.  The other taxi was “written off” with €10,000 worth of damage after it was struck by Azan Waseem (32), but nobody was seriously injured in the accident, a court heard.  Judge Michelle Finan fined Waseem €200 but did not ban him from driving after hearing he had no previous convictions and had since “made every attempt to put things right”.

Waseem, with an address at Galtee House, Abbey Street, Cahir, Co Tipperary, pleaded guilty to careless driving.  He had been accused of dangerous driving but Judge Finan reduced the charge after hearing the evidence.

Dublin District Court heard the incident happened at South Circular Road on March 7 this year.  Garda Sergeant Niall Murphy said Waseem was driving a taxi when he turned right through a red light and struck another taxi that was passing through the junction.  The other taxi had three passengers who were not injured, but the driver suffered some bruising and there was “extensive damage” to his taxi.  The cost of the damage was €10,000 and it had to be written off, Sgt Murphy said.  The court heard speed was not a factor in the crash.  There had been lights a very short distance away and the accused “wasn’t expecting a red light” at the time, defence solicitor Paddy McGarry said.

Waseem was from Pakistan and had been in Ireland for two years. He had never been in trouble before.  The charge of driving without due care and attention is under section 52 of the Road Traffic Act.

I wonder if he was living in Cahir at the time of the Dublin 'accident?'

Wow, a €200 fine for causing €10,000 damage to a comrade's taxi!  I guess the 3 passengers and the injured taxi driver will sue the fukk out of him now in civil court?  I wonder if Waseem will still be living in Ireland in 2 years?

Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.
