One thing I'm confused about is that the NTA have said it's not a taxi (PSV) but what is it then?  Will the Guards nip it in the bud before they start dealing drugs like the rickshaws?

Following receipt of the pedal cab vehicle specification documentation, NTA this morning determined that the vehicle proposed for use by Kerb does not meet the legislative definition of a mechanically propelled vehicle as set out in the Road Traffic Act 1961, as amended. Therefore, NTA can now confirm that this vehicle does not require licensing within the regulatory remit of NTA as a small public service vehicle.

They won't be dealing drugs..it's being funded by sqeeky clean BMW and Mercedes .They will be covering taxi work on a bike with a traier..These open trailers are only the first test vehicles.As they get more popular they can easily add more seats and perhaps a door to keep the weather out.Maybe another little trailer for luggage.

But how can the bicycles do taxi work if they're not NTA-licenced?  The rickshaws skirted the law by asking for 'donations' but these bicycles are charging real money by the looks of things?

There might be an angle for Freenow to be technically allowed to charge a "transport/mobility" fee as long as the driver himself isn't accepting cash.

Freenow could well offer these as a complementary service to fill gaps in their coverage until they've figured out how to get around the regulations.

NTA have also said that charges, i.e. Tech/Priority/Cancellation, between despatchers, and passengers/customers are beyond the remit of the NTA. So now the passengers have officially two suppliers, and that means that officially "The National Taxi Fare" means only the amount that the driver can charge, but has not so much to do with what the passenger has to pay. Also the despatcher now has two customers, the driver, and the passenger, that's the way it is, so potentially the sky's the limit for charges. this could get interesting.

But... when Uber first came over, they wanted Aunty Mary to use her private Corolla to drive people for reward/money.  And the NTA said if there's money involved, you have to use a NTA-licenced taxi.  Or words to that effect. 

So how can FN throw a sticker on the side of a bicycle and send them out to ply for hire and charge money for transporting people around?

Funny how you are blaming freenow, its the useless NTA that have fcuked ye over here. we may as well just run the show ourselves as have that  shower of fools do it. im not surprised though, sure they ignore illegal drivers when it suits them, they prefer giving us fines for not taking card payments.

Bob, you and I hold dispatch licences. I wonder can drivers call us for a price and we can call it a consultation fee? A driver asks us "How much for a punter @ 03.00 from O'Connell St to Stillorgan?" We say " Oh, the meter fare plus €7.00".

You've invested in new technology i.e ultra-modern car, this should allow you to charge an extra fee.
