They'll always find drivers who are happy to make a little more than Tesco pay. Once those drivers become the overwhelming majority the wages will fall below Tesco. Even with a lot of previously self-employed men working for them there's no resistance to freight increases. Since Hail0 launched freight has already gone up by 50% to 15% at the higher end (Free Now) with another 20% increase already in the pipeline. On the other side of the equation, as long as they can manipulate metered fares through lobbying they can keep increasing fares charged to riders.
That's mostly speculation Stephen, what is fact is today's model works pretty fine. I seldom even bother answering my phone to customers anymore unless they are old friends. Mixing street and App works out OK fer me. It possibly may not in the future but I am not tied to any contract with anyone.

Previous models worked fine too i.e.
- with no surge pricing.
- with no passenger technology fees
- with no hospitality fees
- with 12% commission
- with 10% commission
etc...
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Freenow's trick or genius has been to convince the punters that the FN app is the only way to get a taxi these days.  When the 'there's no taxis' stories appear in the papers nowadays, it's usually a variation of, "I was standing outside the pub with 50 other people pressing the app and no taxi turned up."

It would never occur to a lot of young people to stick their hand out or go to a rank.
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

... and what we'll have tomorrow is what we'll meekly accept and work with... once we're earning slightly more than we could earn in Tesco, assuming our only skill being an ability to drive a (class B) car... albeit extremely badly in most cases.

You'd be surprised driving down Westmoreland Street empty at 03.30 with the largest taxi roof sign in Europe, and visible from outer space, that all the punters have their necks craned into their phones looking for a cab!

Gobshites are have been bred.
