Well, Shania Twain in Malahide Castle is not our problem.

https://www.malahidecastleandgardens.ie/location/  and the 2023 https://www.fingal.ie/malahide-castle-summer-concerts make NO mention of taxis so not our problem.

Fingal CC make no mention of taxis but they have a whole section if you wanna take your bicycle!

Again, not our problem.  No mention of taxis at https://www.avivastadium.ie/getting-here but, guess what, if you wanna take your bicycle, there's a section for that!

Even though you won't be able to get a bus or a tram, or later a DART or bike hire, people will ring Joe Duffy saying they couldn't order a cab, even though they ordered one from the mosh pit five minutes before the concert ended.

To be fair, clients have to pay up to €20 in surge fees on top of the normal taxi fare to get a taxi of a January/February afternoon/evening when there's nothing of note on. Fuck knows what a taxi fare will be next time Garth Brooks comes to Croke Park. I'd hazard a guess it'll be four figures!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

The last time I looked at the customer app there were different options. The price of a 'Priority Taxi' at that time was quoted at €10-15 higher than a normal taxi - if I remember correctly that was c.11:12 of a Tuesday morning, I think I posted an image on here as it goes. I didn't look at the prebooking options, that was just the on-demand list.

Strangely enough, I used an Uber taxi last evening and got 10% discount off the metered fare. The minimum fare with Free Now is €1.00 plus the metered fare so, in my case, Uber was between €1.74 and €21.74 cheaper than Free Now for the same journey in the same (or a very similar) car. Even at Free Now's off peak bargain bucket rate the saving almost covers the €2.00 tip I gave the driver in cash.

It must be quiet down below in Cork, the priority fare is only €1 - €2 more than a normal taxi. I'm guessing that increases with demand... but bear in mind the "normal" taxi fare is already €1 more expensive than the metered fare charged by Uber and Bolt and you often (as I did last night) get an unexpected discount from Uber increasing the minimum saving.

I don't understand how a priority taxi fast tracks your pick up though. They both say 3 minutes on your screenshot and there's always going to be less drivers with priority status than with or without the same. Are priority drivers required to drive faster and/or break the rules of the road to earn the extra money for Free Now while at the same time some of them are forced to live in homeless shelters?

FN and previousely Mytaxi and also Hailo have always played their cards very close to their chest about whom gets what in terms of job offers, and FN are again doing the same with their Priority bookings, leaving us just to guess what is actually going on.

I don't think it's hard to see what's going on, Ken. Free Now invests it's money that we give it in lobbying Minister Ryan an NTA to ensure our wages are kept well below the fares it charges. We have reports of taxi drivers being forced to live in homeless shelters while Free Now increases fares while simultaneously reducing wages paid to drivers.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I'm OK with all that, I get me few quid every week fer generally approx 25 hours, if I was working in Tescos I would have to do 80 hours a week to pull the same wedge.

That's the future, I guess Ken. There'll be no place for the small man... it'll be the big multinationals charging high fares and paying drivers minimum wage.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

The multi nationals can only do so much, at the end of the day it will always be the small man driving the cab (bar autonomous vechiles ever get in) and the small man may well get pissed off with mr mutli national if he pushes him too far.

They'll always find drivers who are happy to make a little more than Tesco pay. Once those drivers become the overwhelming majority the wages will fall below Tesco. Even with a lot of previously self-employed men working for them there's no resistance to freight increases. Since Hail0 launched freight has already gone up by 50% to 15% at the higher end (Free Now) with another 20% increase already in the pipeline. On the other side of the equation, as long as they can manipulate metered fares through lobbying they can keep increasing fares charged to riders.
