Dublin gardaí have arrested a driver who had been operating as a taxi without the proper insurance or tax while a baton and a can of suspected pepper spray were found in the vehicle. Gardaí mounted a number of checkpoints around the capital at the weekend and busted five motorists. One person was caught with pepper spray and a baton hidden inside their vehicle.A Garda spokesperson said today: “Recently we carried out several multi-agency checkpoints targeting illegal taxis on Pearse Street, Essex Quay and Pembroke Street Upper. “As a result, five vehicles were seized for having no tax or insurance. “Furthermore a car was stopped and found to be operating as a taxi without the proper insurance or tax. "A baton and a can of suspected pepper spray were found and seized following a search of the vehicle.” The driver was arrested during the operation and an appearance in court is set to follow.<snip>
