Major Windows BSOD issue takes banks, airlines, and broadcasters offline

Thousands of Windows machines are experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issue at boot today, impacting banks, airlines, TV broadcasters, supermarkets, and many more businesses worldwide. A faulty update from cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike is knocking affected PCs and servers offline, forcing them into a recovery boot loop so machines can’t start properly. CrowdStrike is widely used by many businesses worldwide for managing the security of Windows PCs and servers.

The US Federal Aviation Administration says all flights from Delta, United, and American Airlines are grounded due to a “communication issue.” Berlin airport is also warning of travel delays due to “technical issues.” Many 911 emergency call centers in Alaska have also been impacted by the issues. One airline in India has even turned to handwritten boarding passes due to the outages.

In what appears to be a separate outage, Microsoft is also recovering from several issues with its Microsoft 365 apps and services. The root cause of those issues was down to “a configuration change in a portion of our Azure backend workloads.”

He said: “This is not a security incident or cyber attack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.
“We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.

Looks like me few Crowdstrike shares are going to take a dive at 14.30 so.

London taxi drivers struggling to take card payments

London cabbies have been struggling to take card payments, with taxi driver Tony Vieira saying his customers have been forced to pay in cash.

It could be a "disastrous day” if the problem persists, he says, with added trips to cash points proving costly.

Another taxi driver, Tommy Johnson, says he hasn't been able to log on to his IT system all day, adding that around 95% of his payments are normally with card.

He's been lucky with many customers having cash, but adds: "I have had to turn a few people away".

Looks like London drivers pissed off as some card machines AND some ATM's down at the same time.  So no chance of getting paid if you're in a black spot.

Taxipoint:  TfL's response to Microsoft IT outage raises eyebrows among taxi drivers struggling to take card payments

Today, a widespread Microsoft IT outage wreaked havoc across London, affecting various services, including credit card machines and cash points.

Paul, a seasoned London taxi driver, took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his frustration as functionality to take card payments ceased. He asked Transport for London (TfL) for guidance: “Afternoon TfL, this IT outage is affecting my credit card machine and some cash points. As you are the experts, can I use my handheld machine or do I go home? #Microsoft Please answer!”

In response, a TfL spokesperson advised: “Hi Paul. Unapproved alternate card payment devices should not be used. If you are still experiencing a network outage, advise passengers that cash payment is the only current option and offer to take them via an ATM if needed. Hopefully, it will all be sorted soon.”

The response sparked immediate backlash from the taxi community. A representative from trade representatives the United Cabbies Group (UCG) questioned the practicality of the advice, asking, “And how do you expect a taxi driver to be paid for fulfilling the hiring as a number of ATMs are impacted by the same issue?”

Other cabbies were quick to voice their dissatisfaction, labelling the advice as “gold standard nonsense” and questioning the feasibility of directing passengers to cash points during a simultaneous outage.

That outage was the largest in history apparently ...it highlighted the vulnerabilities of centralised  cloud based Internet systems....

Job yesterday From Mc Kee Ave get there and the bloke says no its not there its Airport Driving on Jamestown I go round as its a decent job and the barrier is closed at Weekends so passenger then directs me back around and the cunt can see me at the Jamestown Barrier but wont walk out .I drive around again as I said decent job and the cunt cannot direct me to where he is  and the App is showing the wrong Pick Up about 10 minutes later I cancel the job .The app is absolutely Autistic a piece of shit .an insult to both users and drivers .I have turned it off the last 3 days .
