Govt buries it's new record on a Fri evening
« on: July 26, 2024, 06:03:15 pm »
It's 'good' practice for Govts to release bad news on a Fri evening because it doesn't get as much attention as it might get.  Add in the start of the Olympics and this Friday is a perfect time for bad news.

Number of homeless people increased to more than 14,300 last month

Quote
The number of people accessing emergency accommodation last month increased to 14,303, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing.  This is an increase of 144 on the previous month, while 4,404 of these were children.  The figures show an increase of 1,703 people (14pc) in emergency accommodation in the 12 months since June 2023.  The Dublin total of people seeking emergency accommodation was 10,396, representing 1,496 families, 3,285 children and 4,544 single adults.

So congrats to the Govt on setting a new record - no - records plural!  You just need to make another 96 children homeless and you'll hit the magic 4,500 homeless children!
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

That's above my pay grade but see page 6 of https://www.gov.ie/pdf/?file=https://assets.gov.ie/300587/3e69c000-f06a-4759-83ce-16eff115779d.pdf#page=null  (PDF)

They use the phrase 'Adults in Emergency Accomodation' and it's ~23% EEA/UK and ~23% non-EEA.
