Homeless charity to leave area after arson attack and graffiti threat
The chair of a homeless centre in Belfast that was targeted in a sinister arson attack has remarkably apologised to the community and agreed to quit the area. In an exclusive interview with the Sunday World, Jude Whyte, Chairman of the Welcome Organisation, issued a full apology for “not being in tune” with the “hurt and pain” the drop-in centre on Townsend Street had caused local residents. A car was rammed into the front shutters of the charity building last week and the vehicle was then set on fire, causing substantial damage to the building. Graffiti was later daubed on a nearby wall, threatening to shoot workmen who carried out repairs for the charity and a local political representative blamed the INLA for the attack and threats.
With the two largest terrorist organisations in Europe working in unison it's probably better to err on the side of caution.
