Nell McCafferty, R.I.P.
« on: August 21, 2024, 10:07:15 am »
She was a taxi passenger of mine one time.  Told her I was a big fan of her book "In the Eyes of the Law" but I don't think she was too impressed with me and she struck me as maybe a cantankerous, difficult person to deal with.  We need more people like her who live life on their own terms and travel their own path.  May she rest in peace  O:-)

Journalist, author and feminist campaigner Nell McCafferty has died aged 80, her family has confirmed.  She died in the early hours of this morning at a Co Donegal nursing home.

Ms McCafferty was born in 1944 in Derry's Bogside and graduated from Queen's University in Belfast and then studied in France.  She became a journalist in her 20s and authored many books, including 'Nell', 'In the Eyes of the Law' and 'The best of Nell'.  Ms McCafferty was a founding member of the Irish Women's Liberation Movement.  She became an outspoken advocate for women's rights, the poor and for people who suffered injustice.  She worked for several publications including the Irish Times, the Sunday Tribune and Hot Press and was a regular panellist on radio and television programmes.  She was prominent in campaigns and issues that received national and international attention including Bloody Sunday, the Kerry Babies cases and sex abuse scandals in the Catholic Church.

She received many awards, including an honorary doctorate of literature from University College Cork, in 2016.

Yes, she was a cantankerous woman, but she moved women's rights by leaps and bounds.

A heavy smoker, she no doubt contributed to Nuala O'Faolain's cancer.

Feminist Womens Libber Todays women have a lot to thank her and her like for .She fought so they could go to work and other women happy and contented and able to survive nicely on their husbands single income were forced out to work as Purveyors of stuff and things realized that two wages coming into a household meant they could push up prices of everything now there was more money to pay for the same stuff .Think back when a Garda wages could buy a gaff feed a family and possibly run a car .Now a Gards Wages wouldnt rent a bedsit in Dublin .Well Done to Nell and the Womens Libbers great Victory for Woman Kind and Families .Women now FORCED out to Work while the Kids are booked in a Baby Zoo to be minded by other Women for Minimum Wage .A truly Stupit Cunt of a Woman and her Politics .

The Last time I met her was about 20 years ago in the Windjammer about 6am she was pissed with Eamon Dumphy and Colin Farrell .

RIP.

To be fair, women still retain a constitutional right to idle, erm. Obviously, that's something that not only protects Irish women but also appeals to many immigrants, thereby promoting diversity within society. It's rare, for example, for Eastern European women to work (outside the home) once they're married with Children / Children's Allowance.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Not all feminists are gay, lots of them are with men who are total pushovers. Hipster type guys.

Remember the feminist on first dates Ireland who wouldn't shut up about feminism, then she let her male date pay for her dinner at the end of the date.  rofl
