Sun: New traffic restrictions on Dublin quays
« on: August 22, 2024, 07:06:58 pm »
Starting Sunday, there will be traffic restrictions on private cars around Bachelors Walk and Aston Quay from 7am-7pm.  Shouldn't affect us as such but watch out for crazy, last minute manoeuvres from private motorists!
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

I'd say the Gardai will be out directing the mayhem.

So, its all private vehicles, but what about PSV vehicles? Will Hackneys and Limos be able to continue straight onto Eden Quay?

You can't use bus lanes or contraflows so I doubt you could convince a Garda that you have a right to be there.

I'd say the Gardai will be out directing the mayhem.
The Gardai were out in force fer the first 2 weeks when the main street in Cork St Patrick street (Pana) went Bus/Taxi only between 3pm and 6.30pm every day, they were at every junction and entrance leading on to Pana, that was about 2 years ago and after the 2 week heavy inforcement, all was totally forgotten and mostly completely ignored by most motorists.

The trade off Greens got a big Photo Opportunity saying they are efficient and saving the Planet to their voters .Funny how its not completed but open before Novembers Election and FF/FG got to delay the Vacant Land Tax and the Shinners got Nothing for Nobody .All nicely packaged .No forward planning Like the Hill at Kilmainham Bike Bollards both side so you cannot yield or get out of the Way of an Ambulance with a dieing Kid in the back .Ambulance cant go in Rialto as there is a Roundabout outside the Bird Flannagand creating another obstruction and Cant get Quick Access up James Street as the Luas runs up the middle of the Road .Just wait until Some kid Dies in the Back of an Ambulance due to Traffic or Bike Bollards .Its a Shit Show .

Read somewhere that there are back up generators to heavy for the M50 Bridge .Will they have to bulldoze up the new Bus Gate to allow the trucks through the City .Could an extra long load make the turn onto the Quays ?Dosent look to be any real planning going into these things .Just need a few Hippy voters in the Constituency to get a bike lane .Next time you Drive up Cork Street over the Bridge To Dolphins Barn get a look at the bit of buslane that prevents a second bus from moving until the first one moves about 100 yards long WHY ?Or the bike lane at the Sub that holds up traffic turning right at the lights .

Or the sticks outside St Bernadettes Church on Clogher Rd that cause mayhem every rush hour as cars waiting to turn right can't be undertaken so nobody goes anywhere, the rows of sticks outside the Spawell going down to the Orwell Roundabout on both sides of the road that nobody cycles in but has effectively halved the size of the road... ::fds ::fds ::fds

I posted me Spawell Story .The day that opened Eamo was there so I got out of the car and went over to him .The Death Princess from Virgin was there filming .I walked up to him stuck out me hand and said Lovely Job .Then I asked Minister "What is the Speedlimit in that Bike lane he took the question like a hard kick in the bollox shocked .His assistant informed me .The Speedlimit that prevails on the Road wher the bike lane is affixed is the speed limit .I questioned this I said "The minister said this new bikelane will be great for Kids cycling to school so an 8 year old cycling to school at 8Km per hour will set the speed limit as the slowest cyclist in the lane sets the limit as it is not wide enough to overtake due to the one meter law .She then informed me the following cyclist could move out of the lane overtake then move back into the bike lane .I said that makes no sense why have the bollards .She Frowned then I said " Did you notice anything ?I asked him two questions he didnt answer you did .Thats why he is The Minister and you are the Helper .I then informed her There is no speed limits for bicycles the road traffic act refers to motor vehicles not peddle cycles .It is not clear in law that any speed limit applies to cycles ? That encounter was filmed it might appear on TV3 boob show sometime after Eamo and the Greens wither .

Drove from Dundrum to Sallynogging and back, Sat mid afternoon Sandyford Rd, Industrial Estate, Leopardstown Rd, N11, Kill Lane, Rochestown Avenue. Long queues at all traffic lights out and back, sunny day. Over that whole trip, I only saw two cyclists, and they were cycling on the N11 road on the return journey, ignoring the cycle lanes. Any mode of transport on the public road which has an engine, or an electric motor should be number plated, and pay road tax, and insurance. It should be an offence for any non motorised cyclist to use the road where there is a cycle lane available. The owners of the delivery companies, and or, the brands they advertise should be held legally responsible, as well as the deliverees themselves, for their deliverees failure to wear Hi Viz, or failure to have lights front and rear.

The new restrictions were ok today.Timmorow will be the real test.

I'm going to make a prediction that there will be a serious accident on the way in to the airport fairly soon. The Dublin express and Aircoach drivers are racing up on the outside lane and pushing in at the top like bleeding white van drivers all the way from the M1 merge to the airport roundabout,as well as half the Kesh. There will be a pile up ,then they're going to have to separate the lanes with plastic bollards and we will all suffer together.

I'm the best driver out there by the way...

"while access to Fleet Street will be for deliveries and other access needs." Does that mean that left and/or right turns onto Fleet Street from Westmoreland are gone for us?
