Taxi fare increase December 2024.

In trying to piece together the new expected 9% "Weighted" rise in taxi fares 2024.

(This is what I have managed to come up with, which may or may not be fully correct ??).

Tariff 1 start up rises from 4.20 to 4.60,
The basic running rate rises from 1.30 per km up to 1.32,
After 23.80 is on the meter the rate rises to 1.72 per km, up from the previous 1.65,
Booking fee rises from 2.00 to 3.00.

Tariff 2 start up rises from 4.80 to 5.40,
The basic running rate rises from 1.71 per km up to 1.81,
After 32.00 is on the meter the rate rises to 2.20 per km, up from the previous 2.00,
Booking fee rises from 2.00 to 3.00.

Tariff 3 Weekend rate will seemingly be starting at 5.40, up from 4.80,
and the running rate will be 2.20 per km, up from the previous Chrimbo Tarrif 3 rate of 2.00 per km.

Of what I posted above last July from the original NTA proposal is that the only difference in the final draft is that the Tariff 1 starting rate was dropped to 4.40 from the proposed 4.60, everything else seems exactly as per the NTA July proposals.

I'll do the percentages another day soon, but they will be in favour of the Night workers and especially heavily in favour of the Weekend Night workers.

After My best reading of the new NTA fare increases, below are My math percentages, which are open to correction.

Tariff 1;
The old basic day time rate was €1.30 per km and increased by .02c to €1.32, that is a 1.53% increase in the day time driving rate.
The old day time initial/starting charge was €4.20 and increased by .20c to €4.40, that is a 4.76% increase.

Tariff 2;
The old basic night time rate was €1.71 per km and increased by .10c to €1.81, that is a 5.85% increase in the night time driving rate.
The old night time initial/starting charge was €4.80 and increased by .60c to €5.40, that is a 12.50% increase.

Tariff 3;
The all new Weekend rate was the old Tariff 2 at €1.71 per km and is now increased by .49c to €2.20 per km, that is a 28.65% increase.
The all new Weekend rate was €4.80 per km and increased by .60c to €5.40, that is a 12.50% increase.

To hazard My own semi-educated 'Wild Guess' at the 2024 increases, because it is not exactly calculable as no fare goes the same distance;

Tariff 1 got a 2.5% increase.
Tariff 2 got a 6.5% increase.
All New Weekend Tariff 3 got a 21% increase from the former Tariff 2.

2.5% + 6.5% + 21% = 30%, Divide by 3 = 10% (or 9-11%) overall increase.

I wonder how much Free Now will increase freight by:

I posted already but the €4 extras on short jobs will be a significant premium on app vs street hailing.I wonder will the budget conscious passengers finally push back and walk to the street/rank again.

Didn't fn increase their freight immediately after the last fare increase? Does this mean an increase is on the way? I think it's absolutely nuts that they can charge what they like and they're not reigned in or held to account. I don't work them anymore and I understand some drivers have to work them but surely there should be a limit as to what they can charge. Crazy altogether.

It will be €4 extra John m, not €3, as the 2 main App players both charge a €1 technology fee and the PUC goes up to €3.

I'm not so sure about that, much as some have said they will not return to nights I still think the Taxi street market will be flooded during the 'Golden 8' and with a €3 PUC it might be as handy to work the Apps as opposed to the streets, the reasoning being that the streets will be flooded with taxis and in today's world the majority of street fares pay by card anyway.

It will be yet another learning curve fer us come December 1st.
