Chrimbo falls nice fer us.
« on: November 20, 2024, 12:01:03 am »
Chrimbo fer those of us night drivers inclined to work it seems to fall very nice fer us this year.

Of the 12 nights between Fri 20th Dec till Tues 31st Dec every night will be very busy with 1 possible exception being the Tues 24th Dec as Chrimbo Eve usually dies a death about 9pm.

The downside of Chrimbo work being that the knackers give up on robbing fer a week or so to get plastered and most of the prisons let the scum almost finished their sentences out on temporary release fer christmas.

I only ever took Xmas Day, and New years Day off off. This year for the first time, not working 23/24/25/26, and 1st. The family, 2 grandparents, 6 parents, and 7 grandkids rented a house in Clare for 7 nights 23rd-30th, really looking forward to it.

I don't hate Christmas but the traffic management in Dublin is absolutely brutal. So much so that I end up doing less in December than previous months.I think the earnings potential is overblown for day drivers.I might head out for a few hours between the 26th and New years but it will be mostly out of boredom.

As soon as I realised Christmas wasn't much better than the rest of the year I started to enjoy it a bit more.Bah humbug.

I used to work 10 nights in a row at Christmas but then I started to hate Christmas and I only do 1 or 2 nights over Christmas now, St Stephens night and new years eve. Christmas is much better now as a result.

Back when I used to work so many nights at Christmas, I asked a colleague was he going to work many nights over Christmas? he said no Christmas is for family, he wasnt even sick at the time but he never saw the next Christmas, he died of lung cancer 10 months after I asked him that question.

Back in the day I used to work almost every night in December up to the 23rd,my daughter who was very young at the time used to come shopping with me on Christmas Eve..a tradition that we still keep to now and she's 20(21 in January...never had to buy much, flowers for the missus and generally just going for brekkie with the daughter,
But over the years I just treat December like any other month...the more ye earn the more ye spend!!

Thanks Hal €1941 divided by 8  adults, and divided by 7 nights comes out at €35 per adult per night, and the kids go free, and plenty of help in the kitchen, I've been given the job of turning on, and unloading the dishwasher due to my non existing culinary skills, maybe some veg prep as well. My Xmas presents for grandkids are coverd by a dozen tickets to Mary Poppins in Jan. Adult presents are 1 secretly chosen Kris Kindle, supposedly max €5..ish.

Enjoy, Ken.
