Social media has a lot to answer for.You can go into Templebar at 11am on a weekday and there are tourists outside those pubs trying to get breakfast and a photo with a pint to stick up on Instagram.

I posted before there's a lot coming in from the UK just for the day to Templebar then getting the last flight home pissed. They don't care about the history or the museums..just a piss up then they never come back.

Also the Americans coming in probably think it's still cheap as they're are no extra 10% sales taxes and the expected 20% tips like they have at home.

I suppose taxis are similar... with Temple Bar prices being charged nationwide.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

You expect it in the big cities but I doubt t1990's local would last long charging upwards of €10 for a pint.... yet we expect our clients to pay Temple Bar taxi rates nationwide. Give it back to the local authorities and/or bring back hackneys, I say!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

It mostly just the very middle of town that goes nuts with the pricing. Now that we have more tourists Templebar and it's prices have kinda spilled over to as far as Abbey street all the way up to Aungier street. You'd still get a Guinness for less than €7 beyond Smithfield. When I was in Bantry recently in a local bar they were still charging nearly €6.The culchies aren't getting their drink that much cheaper these days.Didnt see one taxi anywhere so I assume they just drive home pissed.

Very hard to get a cab in West Cork of a night... even the unlicensed hackneys fuck off home by 2a.m. Probably used to dealing with the early to bed, early to rise Yankee simpletons.
