Great result. They may not have realised it was electric when they took the keys.Or maybe they just needed to get somewhere.Either way get a house alarm or start using the one you have.

House door lock changed .Now he needs to rechip the ignition and get replacement keys .See if House or Car Insurance will cover the Cost?

Like Watty says sometimes it might be easier if it was found burned out.It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get the keys done from MG.

Yeah, should be interesting.  Heard a weird thing over on UK fan site https://www.mgevs.com/forums/mg5-ev-forum.5/  Several MG owners have ended up fighting with their garages for software updates etc.  Apparently MG China keeps a tight control on access to the computer and software inside their cars.  Garages (even official garages) have to book and pay for a time slot on the MG central computer in China.  Then they download the software or whatever for one car only.  If the link breaks, tough shit.  Pay up and start again!  Garages can't download the software and stick it on a USB stick. They have to pay for each individual car's access...

(Brave or Stupid) MG car owners can also register with a fake VAT number, pay up, and download software for their own MGs!  Warning - this can obviously 'brick' your car completely if you get it wrong!

Hopefully getting new keys can be a local process  O:-)

Seems Strange why someone would break in to anothers house and steal the keys of a Fookin Lecky car and then abandon it somewhere were the Gardai could find it ??

The clever thieves now have a gadget that can steal the wireless code from the air.  They stick the gadget through your letterbox and steal the unlock signals.  And off they go.  That's why some recommend sticking your keys in the microwave because it's shielded (doesn't emit signals).

You can still get those big yellow steering locks as a temporary measure.I doubt they'd be back and likely threw the keys in the nearest bin.

Little cunts doing all the cars along the road checking handles .They must of come into his garden to see if any money in the taxi .Two of them one must of checked his poarch door which was unlocked  The house door is a split spindke which means you can open it if you can access the inside handle .They usually use a wire hanger to pull the handle down and open the door .keys were on the hall table .They parked it off about 5 miles away .They then try to sell the keys to another crew who want a motor for a stroke .TheGarda Reg recognition camera on board a Garda car recognised it and it was recovered .Dont know if its damaged collecting it from the Tow company today .

Probably not related but there's a gang of teenagers in Dublin called the 'Lucky Dip' gang.  They steal cars for fun and type in a rural town/village on Google Maps and off they go.  Sometimes they go on a burglary rampage when they get there and sometimes they don't.  But they stick their videos on Instagram to taunt the Gardai.

And they get bail when caught because Oberstown (teenage jail) is overcrowded.  So there's no incentive for them to stop.  They killed someone (hit and run) in Balbriggan but it hasn't stopped them.

Edit:  They're called the 'Lucky Dip' gang - Key member of ‘Lucky Dip’ gang arrested over hit-and-run that killed pedestrian in north Dublin

Who did they kill in Balbriggan, Watty? The linked article only mentions a similar incident in Baldoyle.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Back on topic... fortunately this case worked out alright but be careful posting details of stolen subsidised taxis on the internet. I know NTA enforcers read the nonsense posted on here - probably primarily for entertainment - so I doubt it'd be too long before they'd knock on the victim's door looking for their €10,000 back in used notes had the car not been recovered.

I wonder if anyone has been chased for some of the 20k back so far.I've seen EV taxis up for sale on Donedeal that were less than a year old recently.

Rodent there would be an issue with the taxi thingey getting any money back .The 5K was open to all who went EV .They would need to return your car to you before they could claim the 10K scrappage .That was a Private treaty sale .The only recoverable monies might be the 5k Taxi Grant .

As usual you couldn't be wronger, erm.

The €10k I refer to is completely separate and additional to the general €5k which is automatically deducted from retail prices by motor dealerships.

The other €10k "scrapage" would probably be reclaimed by NTA in addition to the aforementioned €10k but could be challenged in court as to restore the victim to his original position NTA would have to unscrap the scrapped vehicle and give it back, I guess.
