Re door seals, the design of a car has alot to do with the angle that customers get into the car iirc the atto3 and MG5 are higher up cars than ordinary. That and the cars were never intended for taxi use.

The Mg5 is a nightmare to get in and out of the rear in my experience.

The service guy was sayign something similar about the KIA e niro too but I haven't heard anything myself. The rubber feels like an old bike tube....if it was made of a foam. Not a big deal as they're cheap enough to replace but just annoying on a vehicle with 40k on it.

Re MG5 door seal...

https://www.mgevs.com/threads/drivers-side-ripping-rubber-door-seal-mg-ev-5-year-2020.9829/

-- "Just replaced a rear rubber bought from local mg to me . Cost was around £25 fit myself 10 minute job .Not under warranty for me as I'm over 80k miles now"

-- "I've put a narrow strip of Gorilla Tape over the split in my driver door rubber seal.  At least with it being shiny/smooth, it should fend off any more dragging from my clothing as I get in, hopefully...."

Parts:

UK specialist:  https://www.ukmgparts.com/catalogue/mg5-midcat-2-submg5-25-front-door-seals (diagram included, very impressive)

Google says auto-doc.ie (FN's new best friend) sells them but I'm fukked if I can make sense of the site...

I guess saving a bit of rubber on the door seals compensates for increased tyre wear.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

If you had enough solar panels / batteries could you charge an EV on DC at home or do you have to convert the DC from the sun to AC for the car to convert it back to DC with all the power factor loss than entails?

I guess if Hals motor won't charge on the home charger the problem is with the AC circuit or the inverter?

Yes RC "Power domain control unit"  according to Hal.Sounds like the inverter.

It might be that they don't know what exactly is wrong with it and the correct procedure is to order new parts. It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Most people would likely be out of warranty if thiers failed in a few years. With MSL labour the bill could be 5k or more.

At least there's the fast charging option.

Yes RC better than no car.Apparently MSL didn't think it was urgent enough to skip the waiting list for diagnostics because it can still fast charge. It's costing him a fair bit extra and then the hour a day charging time.Next time he logs in he might have more info.

Speaking with a competitor / colleague recently, he was an early adaptor 212 ID4, he had 230k KLM’s on the clock when he had to replace the inverter €3k supplied and fitted to the customer.

With the fuel savings and minimal servicing he well saved the cost over the last 4 years… but he didn’t save it as he used the money saved and had to take out a loan to cover the repairs.

To the ev lads here are ya saving some money should a big repair bill happen?

With modern diagnostics one would imagine any fault is pretty easy to diagnose. Once you read the fault code(s) the service manuals pretty much guide you in an idiot proof manner and in a main dealer environment are most likely accompanied with integrated interactive IT based systems but you're probably right in thinking that one of two charging options being unavailable would be determined to be a low priority.

Motor collected and road tested all looks good .There was an issue with the charger and this could be an issue for others that could be exploited by unscrupulous spanner jugglers .The Wall Charger at home needed the app to be eliminated then reinstated again .There seems to be an issue with some of the Chargers that could be missinterpreted as a car fault .Spanner Monkey say he changed of fixed the thingey then tell you to uninstall and reinstall the app for the charger or check the wi fi connection .So anybody with charging problems check the charger get your mate to try your charger .It seems common problen especially after power surges or power dropping out .Happens in Dublin "" when they test run those new Data Centers .

Hope all goes well John for your mate.Hals gone AWOL so I'll fill yis in even though I didn't ask him if it was ok..sorry....his car was diagnosed after 6 weeks waiting for an appointment and after a couple of days they've ordered the parts for the charging system and it could take between 2 and 8 weeks. So his car can be fast charged and driven but not on the house charger. It's costing him a lot more on the fast chargers but the delays are unreal. The part costs over 3k to order in.

These dealers do not give a flying fuk whether you need your vehicle for work or not.If you do but an EV try get one that won't break down.Stay well away from MSL.

Relatively easy problem from me I'm now waiting a month to hear back on my torn door seals.Zero communication form MSL.I might just buy them meslef and blank them.

Regarding EV's=The main dealers-stealers only want to do easy basic jobs that they can charge exorbitant money for, brake discs/pads tyres, shocks etc, they haven't got the equipment and trained people to work on what's under the bonnet.

I was told for example that Nissan have only 2 places in the whole country that can deal with open heart surgery on an EV,one is in Windsor Motor Mall in Finglas and the other down thye bog somewhere....like WTAF?

Now you can fuck right off with your smart answers you know its not sorted .The car now needs an out of date NCT ,Then a new Meter and out of Date Suitability costing loads of Harry Enfields .Now the Insurance say they are not aware of the Meter being insured and if you read back they never paid off the Road Money .So request now sent to Insurance for Actual Copy of every insurance policy ever issued by them to see where the options were dropped and signed off .
