There is traffic chaos in Cork this evening as traffic lights across the city have failed in a major outage. Traffic Gardaí have warned that the lights are currently out of action, causing significant delays at many of the city’s busiest junctions as motorists try to navigate evening rush-hour traffic without the assistance of the traffic lights.Some drivers have taken to social media to warn others about lights being out at key junctions. Traffic camera feeds are also unavailable at major locations such as the Dunkettle Interchange, which links the M8 Dublin motorway to the N40 South Ring Road, the N25 Rosslare Road, and the dual carriageway into the city via Silversprings.One of the busiest city centre junctions, where the dual-carriageway N27 South Link Roads meets the city and connects the airport with the west, is also out of action.There are major delays inbound and outbound along Wilton Road, from Blackpool on the N20, and across the city’s quays, with children now fully back in school after the start of the new term.The city centre has been particularly badly affected, with many describing the situation as “chaos” as people attempt to get home from work and school.Local reports have also highlighted some dangerous driving near some of the city’s hospitals, as well as the busy suburb of Douglas currently at a standstill.Cork City Council say that some junctions are back up and running but say they cannot put a definitive time scale on when motorists can expect service to fully resume.They added that there is a mix of remote and on-scene work required, and teams are currently being dispatched to fix the issue.
