36yr old man pulls out fake gun during taxi row, mum defends him

Man brandished realistic imitation gun in taxi fare row and his mum ushered him away, shouting it was ‘only a toy gun’, court hears (Indo, Paywalled)

Quote
A taxi passenger involved in a fare dispute with the driver got a “realistic” imitation handgun from his house, came out and pointed it in the driver’s direction, it is alleged.  Ian Brennan brandished the airsoft BB gun after he grabbed the driver’s ID from his dashboard and another two taxi drivers arrived at the scene of the row in west Dublin, a court was told.  The case against him was adjourned at Blanchardstown District Court for the accused to decide how he intends to plead.  Mr Brennan (36), of Ballydowd Square, Lucan, is charged with unlawful possession of a realistic imitation firearm and producing it in the course of a dispute.

... Outlining the prosecution’s case, she said the accused was socialising on the night and got a taxi home. It was alleged he was intoxicated and on arrival, he had a dispute with the driver over the fare.  Mr Brennan said he had paid €50 and the driver said he only paid €10. It was alleged the accused became aggressive towards the driver and two of the driver’s colleagues arrived at the scene.  Mr Brennan’s mother came out of the house to calm the situation down and the accused allegedly grabbed the driver’s ID from the dashboard and refused to give it back.

According to the prosecution, he then went into his house and returned with a black airsoft pistol in his hand and “pointed it in the direction of the three taxi men”.  His mother ushered him away and shouted it was “only a toy gun”, the sergeant said.

Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction, allowing the case to remain in the district court.

I'm not sure what's more shocking - the toy gun or the comrades coming to his aid!

Case is staying in the district court so the accused, if found guilty, will probably get a court-sponsored holiday in Galway or somewhere to recover from the trauma of the court case  >:(

Damn immigrants...
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
