Ban FFs?
« on: April 01, 2026, 11:10:02 am »
Should Fossil Fuel vehicles be banned from city centres and/or subject to very significant congestion charges?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I have a gas bill.. I guess I could bring that to the relieving officer now that I'm unemployed with no entitlement to welfare.

They'll be relieved when you leave the office that's for sure.

Do you remember your last encounter with welfare .When you had to educate the young lady that only two Taximen in the whole country availed of the free money .Why would you not be entitled to subsistance allowance from the community welfare office .You will be off work for up to 6 weeks because of delays in issuing 2026 grants .Waiting for said grant decision to be made ,waiting on Grant to be granted ,finding replacement vehicle ,Waiting on delivery .Waiting to get passed out .How would a family man with kids and a Mortgage survive this without some sort of State intervention ? I have Candles and a Primus Stove in the War Preperation Bunker if your ESB or Gas gets cut off .You can also drop in if you want the bath after me .

Devils Advocate:

Could a plumber claim 'welfare' if a spare part is delayed coming from the supplier?  Plumber could go and do another job while waiting.  If there was no darts on the telly, RC could rent for a few weeks - might even be tax-deductible?

Taking it even further, I seem to remember RC delaying his meter sealing appt again and again.  You could get welfare and delay your ISI / suitability again and again and stay on welfare forever?

You wont know if you dont ask .Just look at the Scenario I suggested a Man with a family waiting for others to make decisions that impact his business .The Sainted Doctor Leo Peace be upon Him gave the whole country coin when their purse was impacted .So it is established that you are entitled to help even if you are self employed .? I know the Rodent wont be making any Claim ,but I see no reason why any other driver in the same position would not make a claim and let the Minor Civil Servant on Minimum Wage make the decision to pony up or refuse it ?

I would imagine it would be means tested (Covid payment was different) and if you have any coin in the bank they turn you down

I think they disregard the first couple of hundred grand in savings or something like that but if your Mrs. is working forget it.
