Digitax Meters
« on: April 08, 2026, 11:06:10 am »
Is anyone having trouble with Digitax meters. Seem to be stuck on tariff 2 since the long weekend and looks like it’s stuck until June.
On a designated rank and 100% compliant

Hi Phyl Some drivers changing Car have been advised to update some brands of meter as the programmes for them may no longer be available .Im not sure what brand .

Short answer: Digimax taximeters aren’t necessarily “obsolete” overnight—but many of them are effectively being phased out in practice, mainly because of software support and regulatory updates, not because meters themselves are banned.

Here’s the real situation (especially relevant in Ireland):

2. Digimax specifically — why they’re fading out

There’s no strong recent evidence of Digimax taximeters being:

Included in newer approved meter lists (e.g. 2024 fare updates focus on brands like Digitax, Cygnus, etc.)
Actively supported in Ireland

At the same time:

Some Digimax-related companies have been dissolved or inactive
Others exist but aren’t clearly tied to ongoing taximeter development/support

The critical rule in Ireland

Each meter program has a “valid until” date:

After that, it cannot be verified or legally used
No workaround (manual tariff switching isn’t allowed)

So if Digimax doesn’t issue:

New fare software
Updated certified programs

➡️ Your meter effectively becomes obsolete by regulation, not by age.

3. The industry is moving forward quickly

Modern taximeters now include:

GPS / telematics
Card payments
Integration with dispatch systems

And regulators are pushing for:

Certified, tamper-proof, digitally connected meters
Frequent software updates and compliance cycles

The overall market is growing and modernising, not disappearing

The NTA approved these programs so they should be taking some responsibility. Most lads would just inform the customer I hope and knock a few quid off.
