Voyage for Madmen 2
« on: August 06, 2026, 03:56:37 pm »
And he's off again !

"A Kerry grandfather (70) has bid farewell to family and friends today as he embarks on one of the world's toughest and most dangerous sailboat races.
Pat Lawless is hoping to become the first Irish person to complete the around-the-world Golden Globe yacht race.
The solo challenge often referred to as the 'Voyage for Madmen’ sees competitors attempt a non-stop solo circumnavigation of the globe."

A good few old faces from the 2022 expedition.

Damien Guillou from France will be the hot favourite to win.

Pat's off to a clean start anyway, lying 3rd as I write. One guy seems to still not have launched No.16 Par Nyman from Sweden. Guillou in pole position.

Pat still lying 2nd off the Morrocan coast, and both he, and the leading boat (Damian Guillou) have drawn away somewhat from the rest of the fleet. Both are further along the course than were any previous winners at this point. Sailing conditions must be good.

I'm loving the GGR race Harry, been waiting 3.5 years fer it to start and I'm obviousely delighted seeing Pat in such a strong position.

I THINK Damien prepared his boat fer Racing while Pat prepared his fer Endurance ?

Still a long way to go and I'm enjoying every minute of it.
