Dis a airport in traffic last week
39 on clock
24.80 off uber
Fixed fares that are not fixed fares....you couldn't make it up....Airport jobs are poison off that app and 95% chance of coming back empty.
It's probably not as mad as it sounds. Back in the days of (unofficial) taxi ranks I'd occasionally accept fixed fares and in doing so would generally tell the client that I'll run the meter to keep us legal and only charge the metered fare if that was lower than the agreed amount - of course they'd always give you the agreed amount regardless. I remember working for Swords Cabs in the few years after entry liberalisation and it was that sort of thing that was instrumental in converting Swords to a largely metered service albeit still controlled by C2K. Mad really folk would queue at the depot for tens of minutes rather than ride with the beggars at the bus stops back in those early days... and some still do!
I didn't bother renewing my Zone 18 permit because I never got anything off DAP from any of the apps - bar during one single week that Uber gave me 3 jobs off it - and then, yesterday, two remarkable things happened. First I got a job off Bolt immediately after dropping at T2... which I covered thanks to TD42 recently letting me know that the permit is optional in practice... Then later on I dropped an Uber ride at T1 and as I was driving down the old airport road - heading for mummy's house in Coolock but prepared to take anything along the way - the Uber app told me to drive to the front of the queue, presumably the Z18 car park. As I was essentially finished work I didn't follow the instruction and just pressed the dismiss button... then it said I have some sort of pass that I could use any time before 18:00 to skip the queue or some such. I never used it and, as I was driving, I'm not even sure what it was all about... but how odd is that... I get rid of the permit cos I've had no use for it in the last 46-48 weeks and within a week - all on one short shift - I'm confronted with two potential scenarios in which I could use the damn thing!
