A strike is withdrawal of services so if you turn off the app and rank up, you're already on strike!

In Ireland, I'd say once they get rid of us, it'll be a tag team of rental companies & the apps renting to our new cousins and the cost to the punters will shoot up.  In rural areas, it'll be rideshare at the weekends and no taxis during the week.

Wast that 21.08 on the offer screen i.e. 23.95 before commission? How much would you get on the meter for that run on rate 1?

The meter is too low in the city and too high in rural areas in my experience. Last Friday I done Balbriggan - Airport €45 (1pax - 22 mins) followed by Airport to D1 €29 (3pax - 27 mins) followed by 7/8 mins going nowhere in heavy traffic up above in Dublin with no fare on board. Makes no sense.

Mind you I got two taxis in Belfast last night... both hired from a local firm's app and both stg£6.00 for 3pax, short ride each way within the city centre.

It's not just the 21.08 but you have about an 90-95% chance of returning empty thus paying you a score for over an hours work which is bolloxolgy when you factor in the pay to play factor.

That's an interesting point to ponder. As I mentioned on another thread or two, last Friday I dropped an Uber ride at DAP and the app told me I had a fast pass or somesuch to skip the Zone 18 queue. I never used the pass but that's my fault not theirs, I guess. Anywaysanall it got me to thinking if they give a fast pass (I don't know how or why I got it and I was only told I had it after I dropped) with fixed fare jobs would that make drivers accept significantly lower fares?

According to Free Now it's drivers queue for "hours" to pay 20% commission plus €3 DAA fee for DAP pickups. Even drivers permitted to use DAA ranks can be faced with lengthy waits at quiet times so does it make sense that drivers would be prepared to speculate a few quid off a fare to get away as soon as they drop... or do they just like queuing while shovelling tons of fried brown shite down their necks?

Makes sense. I'm Platinum now. When I got gold I thought that was as good as it got, then they set the target at Diamond... got there and the target became Platinum... However, that's where it ends... game over. I was seriously betting with myself as to what would come next... Tungsten, Saffron... surely they coulda kept it going with a bit of imagination. What fucking nonsense... grown men are supposed to be interested in getting gold stars on their foreheads... easy to see these apps are all designed by kids who got most of their education on a playstation or whatever the modern day equivalent of a playstation is!

... but I'd never been given a fast pass before... or since... and I have a very low acceptance rate (22%) and probably relatively high cancellation rate at 3%. You would think the lads that take everything they're offered and never cancel would be the ones that deserve rewards or bonuses?

There's a feature on the rewards program that allows you to carry over your 'status' to the following month too.You may well notice the difference next month unless you've been working hard.

There was a time before everyone defected over to Uber that I'd get a job to the airport and another straight back to town. One day it happened three times in a row.

The fix fares ensure I won't be as motivated to chase Uber work as before.Fun while it lasted.

I've fuck all this month... I got to Diamond - I think I said Platinum above but it's whichever is the higher one that I have - through a bit of new car syndrome coupled with making up for new car breaking down syndrome. Anywaysanall, I'm done now 'till Sept so I was expecting to be back on the bottom rung by then. See now that you've said I can stay Diamond or Platinum or whatever it is I have I'm gonna have to look at the fucking thing now which I don't really want to do but it's in my head now, less see how long I can resist!

To be honest as a result of working more than normal I'm (unusually!) ahead of the game financially and I could only squeeze a one week summer holiday around hospital appointments and such like within the constraints of school holidays which is all Mrs. Catcher can do... so the holiday budget will return a surplus too... My intention is to speculate €1,740 of that on trying TaT for a year so hopefully that'll reduce my current dependence on commercial apps going forward.

That's mad... but I can see why drivers who are allowed skip the queue for work at Zone 18 when they drop at the terminal might be tempted.

At the moment there's no shortage of men coming into the game. The WAV grants lottery is hugely oversubscribed and someone on here reported a sibling renting his saloon plate for €5,000/year. Mightn't be a bad time for men who have skills that'd enable them earn better money in another trade or profession to consider their options. Anyone who got a saloon plate after entry liberalisation would recoup their investment within two years through the rental market. It's not that long since several drivers' unions were calling for a buyback scheme... I guess we have as close to that as possible right now but how long will it last....
