A hackney?
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

The old taxi plate was what became the original hackney plate (on or after regulation in 1978) i.e. a small oval shaped plate fixed to the rear of the vehicle. Roof signs were optional back then.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

my dad always had this transparent triangle sticker on the window below the rear view mirror. was always peeling off. always wondered what it was. saw an old video of john usher in the 80s talkin beside a taxi and i spotted the same sticker i remembered and paused the video. it was some union sticker job.

The triangle was ITDF... changed colour every year so drivers could tell whether their colleagues / competitors subs were up to date.

You could make a nice little framed collage outta that stuff, TD42. I doubt it has any monetary value but, being your dad's, might well have sentimental and some historic value... something that could survive generations, perhaps.

They might be when they get older... it's all part of the tapestry of life that turned them into professionals.
