Regardless of one's opinion of the demos, the less they are supported works in the apps favour, from the apps point of view, and from the NTA's point of view. It's in everyone's long term interest to support action against the apps in whatever way one can.

Really The Balbriggan Oracle has told us the Last Protest led to the introduction of another Pay to Work App .That would mean what you say is unproven .I suggested a simple idea get a Stencil on your Bonnet with a figure with a Raised hand Hail a Taxi .And CASH or CARD door decals .A lot of people are actually unaware you can street hail or Pay cash or Card .Take Back your Work dont increase the amount of Apps .I love lads suggesting Support for this protest are the same lads covering the Work .At least Im honest I do street hails and Run UBER .Imagine being such a Fraud that you would support this action but not dump the App .Like the Fuckers organising it .

I wouldn't be encouraging anyone to pay by card. It's bad enough that we are the only tradesmen in the entire Free State who aren't entitled to legal tender without advertising the fact.

The apps have broadened our horizons and developed the private hire sector significantly by putting taxis in people's pockets. In my case I now get work outside of the areas I'm licensed to ply or stand for hire. You have suggested that you use the commercial apps yourself when you are taken away from your patch. Increasing our productivity in that way is hugely beneficial to us and the rideshare platforms are hugely convenient both for us and the riders. Riders don't have to leave their gaffs looking for us and we don't have to leave our gaffs looking for them. Obviously those benefits come at a price. With Tap that is a fair price. Don't forget you get an extra €3 on every pick up so with Tap you only need to cover 40 jobs in a month to cover the entire base fee. If you don't think that's value for money, fair enough... It's not for you... Like all the commercial apps, it's optional.

Of course, the continued expansion of the private hire sector isn't exclusive to Ireland.  We're not unique in only using public hire vehicles to cover that work but we are in a pretty small minority of cities doing it that way. In simple terms, if taxis didn't or don't want the work the current temporary moratorium on the issue of saloon hackney plates would be lifted fairly lively.

In fairness to the NTA, they have other pressing problems to solve...  Residents call for bus route on Limerick city's road with bus lane

"Residents on Limerick's Condell Road are going nowhere fast when it comes to public transport - despite a bus lane already being in place.  It is one of three main routes into the city from the northside, but the only one with a bus lane and no bus service."

Couple of WATs would sort that out  O:-)
Not only that, they are now in the process of building a bus shelter on that particular road, for a bus service that doesn't exist.

I don't remember that one tbh... was it on the rank in the middle of the road or over on the holding rank by the bank? The holding rank was used for the taxi share scheme where folk used to queue for hours to share a cab at a fixed price... a shelter there might have been for the rank marshals?

I think there's still shelters on Northside SC and Donaghmede SC so if they survive there I don't see why they wouldn't survive in the city. Maybe just lost as part of the redevelopment of the general area?

Read the demands on line for the Protest .All are about nothing the NTA has any responsibility for .They are Objecting about the apps THEY DECIDED TO USE to get jobs .All their issues are commercial and have nothing to do with the NTA .A bit like they got a Tattoo now they are complaining because she left them .Have a look at the Cars Protesting carrying Branding that they get paid to carry and they are objecting to those same Brands .

Apparently they were removed to make way for the tram.

What do we want…………dont know

Thats the problem .What do we want .We want fixed fares done away with .OK so we are supporting Hacks and limos because they can do fares less than the Maximum metered fare .We want the Regulators to take the opportunity to say UBER APP is a BOOKING PLATFORM for Transport ,Aeroplanes ,Food Delivery can charge their customers whatever they like but taxi operators are governed by the meter .Marching on the NTA ,I wonder did they actually ask to meet somebody in authority to discuss their issues or are they really only getting Free Advertising for UBER fixed fares .Imagine Yer man on Ireland AM on the Breakfast Alan Hughes telling the Country Taxi drivers who refuse to take me and my Husband Carl from the Airport to Swords because its not far enough are now complaining that passengers can get discounted fares using UBER .OWN GOAL .

NTA is responsible for licensing and regulating dispatch operators as well as PSV vehicles and drivers. As far as drivers are concerned NTA sets the maximum fare permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter. It also has a statutory obligation to promote competition. The regulation of licensed dispatch operators needs to be updated to prevent the sort of anti-competitive practices Uber et al are engaged in.

A rider might be able to get a cheaper taxi now but that's only because Uber is charging him less than it pays the driver, that won't last. What should be of most concern to Govt/NTA in that regard is the fact that the rider is forced to waive his right to have the maximum fare permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter if he wants to order an Uber Fixed Fare Taxi.

I don't know how much cheaper they are ... if at all, in reality. I covered one to DAP the other day (rate 1) and the fixed fare was €53.xx. The maximum fare permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter was €46.60, 24 min ride + 2 min run in. In the course of a discussion elsewhere I checked Uber's Fixed Price Taxi rate to DAP from O'Connell St. Upper up above in Dublin (Saturday rate 1) and it was €23.xx... add on the €1 tech fee and that's €24.xx... Tap wanted ~24 EUR for the same job.

Competition can only operate one way .There is a MAXIMUM Metered Fare how do you compete with that DOWNWARD only just like Upward Only rents .Think of the Outcome when the Thingey states Booking Apps are stand alone booking .Nothing to do with Taxis .Now They say We charge a Booking Fee Surge Booking Fees for early morning or Christmas time .But then we pass on OUR bookings to Licenced DRIVERS both taxi or hack as long as they are Licenced .Now the apps offer you full Metered fares but 40% commission .All totally legal .The Solution at the Moment is Tap A Taxi or work the streets .The Taxithingey has promoted Competition it makes dispatchers licences available to anybody who meets the entry requirement .

We never done well out of any protests .Stickers .(9year rules .Suitability .Every problem we highlighted they found a solution but not the one we expected .

I suggest you read the link Watty posted in another thread ( http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=19038.0 )

Forcing competition out to monopolise a market is anti-competitive. I get that you don't understand that and that it's taking our discussion beyond what taxi drivers might reasonably be expected to understand but the men protesting obviously do understand what is happening and do understand what the next stage of Uber's market manipulation will be. As noted previously, I get why you think you will force all the immigrants back to where they came from by supporting Uber and covering it's reduced fixed fares up above in Dublin. However, the fact that you think Uber will increase the rates it pays you once you have forced all the immigrant drivers back to where they came from is laughable. Once you're happy to do the work the portion of the fare that Uber pays you will only ever decrease. Limo drivers are already paying them 25% commission and Free Now already charges it's Taxi drivers 25% commission.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
