Pre-paid fares
« on: September 15, 2017, 02:07:24 pm »
Sometimes a person will want to pre-pay for a taxi fare, maybe for a relative or business associate, how can this be achieved with the maximum fare order?
A driver may not charge more than the metered fare so must either guess the exact amount or charge an amount known to be less than the fare for the job, it seems odd to overcharge the original person and award the passenger not only with a free taxi but also with some of the customers hard earned cash as change.
This all seems unfair to taxi drivers.
I realise some will say it is ok to overcharge, see shallowhals reply to my previous post on a similar but different topic http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=8073.msg52577#msg52577 however I am trying to ascertain if it is possible to be fair to all whilst remaining within the law.

If you undercharge....that's your problem.....if the metered fare is less than the amount you've agreed...it's a tip!!

Agree the fare and get the passenger to sign the waiver .When assessing a fare for a waiver you might consider both time and traffic as well as distance .If the traffic turns out to be heavier you lose if its less it might be in your favour ,Also flight delays and holdups contribute to a lot of waiting time .I dont do airport pickups due to lost time outside my control.

My issue is with the maximum fare order, as far as I am aware the "waiver" is no longer legal?
If a passenger is aware of the max fare they can insist on the metre or a lower fare, however if they are willing to pay more they should be allowed do so and agree same in advance.

If they're not in the car they can't insist on anything...mountains!!

I picked up four lads a while back....final destonation Stepasode, the older gentleman in the front was payin even thought he was getting out second on the journey,he asked how much it would be,i said from town to Stepaside direct is usually €25,so with the extra 3 drops we agreed €30,when i dropped the last lad it was a shade over €25,yer man started asking me how much the oul lad paid, told him...he said could he have the change...i politely told him to fuk off!!

The maximum fare order is there to protect the passengers from drivers who were, and still are using waivers to avoid using the meters to overcharge. We've all heard the stories from customers who were charged 60 quid from the airport to town but got a hand written reciept with no driver details.I think the waiver is still needed undercharge/discount the customer even though it's become illegal to use with the maximum fare order.Dunno if I'm making sense.

It's all very well if it's a one off, the NTA will never know, but let's say people are willing to pay a premium for your service … because of the car, you're an ex GAA all star or sing Frank Sinatra (how is Tommy?) so you set up a Facebook page and offer your services at a premium, the NTA would soon come across you, book your service and probably bring you to court.
It seems to me that if customers are willing to pay a premium , so long as they know they should be allowed to.
I know a girl doing tours at €30 an hour, technically illegal, she could get screwed some day!

Is Tommy still about? Someone said he'd retired a few years back...
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
