Having gotten quotes from Masseys for a varnished box because I was nearly dead ,I was wondering I earned about a score last week .Do any of you have a few notes put aside just in case your out of work .I was also listening to Pick Pocket Paggo on the wireless telling some old doll who took a few years off to bring up sprogs that since Joan The Juggler cut her way into your pension by averaging out your payments from the first time you worked lets say as a nipper in a factory during your summer hols when you were 16 until you retire if there is any break in service you might not get the full pension in fact if you were on the dole all your life you would get the full pension but if you worked and had time off you might not .I posted up on Roys at the time about this ,it might be a good idea to talk to your accountant about this and checkout what qualifying stamps you have .

I also posted on Roys that if we are means tested since Mary Harney brought in the nursing homes bill where for the first time constitutionally the state can access your private property to pay for your services they also used this piece of legislation allowing them to access your assets to allow you offset your property tax until you are dead but unlike most other debts that die with you they can take what you owe out of your estate on disposal .IF the government and they might decide that your home is an asset for the purpose of means testing then its really important that we make sure we have the right amount of qualifying contributions check it out with your accountant .I noticed that Pick Pocket Paggo was suggesting that people in nursing homes might consider renting out their homes to help with their costs and the homeless problem .If you were to do this would your home become a commercial asset and then be liable for capital gains tax .

Any way it might be a good idea to check where you stand with regard to qualifying for a pension and paying for extra or missed contributions if you still can .

If your accountant advised you to make voluntary contributions and Govt subsequently abolished the contributory pension for self-employed or subjected it to means testing could you sue the accountant?

I would think not as tax law is fluid and usually amended in the finance bill .Its just it might be prudent to keep up with changes as they are in real politic as Joan the Juggler and Mary H seem to have buried a few land mines in previous finance bills that are now blowing up in peoples faces .
