I see Apple Inc just got planning permission for their Data center in Athenry .What they are not telling you this plant will use more electricity than Galway City and the Irish Government have to guarantee supply .So what ? We the Irish people will guarantee Apple a supply of electricity at a fixed price .So if or when Brexit comes in if we import power from the UK we might have to pay an import duty and we the people will pick up the cost . You couldnt make up this shit .

Apple announced they are building a Data Centre in Denmark same day they announced Athenry. The judgment is expected to be delivered today by McDermott. Has been delivered as above but several deferrals. Ireland is the perfect hub for tax scams.

Ireland done a deal .It agreed that Apple would never run out of Electricity and undertook to guarentee supply at a fixed price .Then there was the objection to the North South Inter connector so Ireland was not in a place to guarentee electricity supply .Now we have another problem BREXIT .If we import power from the North will it carry any import duty if so the Irish Government who have already agreed to supply power for possibly ever at a fixed price will pick up the tab .There are only a few Construction jobs and less than 100 operational jobs involved they will be the most expensive jobs ever subsidised by the state if they go ahead .Then since the original idea was mooted there has been a court case taken in Ireland by a European Citizen who objected to his data which is held on European based servers being shared with the US government this case in now before the ECJ .So expect more appeals to foggy the water until both the Brexit issue and Data Transfer issues are solved .Your local Galway TD can now canvass in the next election telling you how he got the Athenry plant built while looking over the fence at a forest full of trees where nothing has happened but the Local shop keeper publican and school teacher will see this a some sort of future job security while the local farmer sells off a few sites and the local builder builds a few houses for all the new workers that will never come .

This Data center will never be built in Ireland as security is the most important thing and we do not have an Army that could defend such a facility ........Unless we join NATO .

I believe one complaint that had to be dealt with was from a land owner in Wicklow who lodged a complaint on the grounds that the plant wasn't built on his land!!

You can throw as many ECJ's,NATO,Brexit around like confetti John....but when dealing with shite like i've mentioned...we haven't a fukin hope!!

Havent a hope of what subsidising one industry over another .If we give Apple subsidized power then we need to subsidies power for every industry .Our idiots never learn .I am taking part in an economic on line forum at the moment and I asked the question does the WAT subsidy represent government aid for taxi drivers to compete against other taxi drivers is it legal .

In discussions I had with the Rodent he believes that the 6% commercial duty on the sale of farmland will be done away with that is the opinion of a lot of people on the economic forum .I say they cannot do that as that would be an illegal subsidy paid to the farming industry over all other industries .Hal Irish Politicians havent learned yet that the Days of the Galway Tent and £20 quid a plate for chicken in a basket meetings with your local TD to get a shovel of tar to fill a pothole are over .That Apple thing was just another stroke in the making I dont think it will happen .

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Age is a state of mind*. I was thinking of becoming young at heart but it all seemed like too much effort.

*not really, it's a measure of time... the amount of time that has lapsed since birth.
