The hoovering occurences have definitely decreased in the last couple of years...but now that I have to do two suitability tests a year they may have to increase.

Depending on how long it takes to build around 400 jobs in constructing it, then maybe 50 people to keep it running.
Isn’t it supposed to have its own gas generator, or was that Google or Amazon or Microsoft or Facebook.

This is very misleading. It’ll take 75% of new growth. But only about 20% of all energy.

The 20% is projected for data centres as a whole within the next decade. Most of that will be in Dublin. It's not a big deal provided it focuses minds on the need to expand generation from renewable sources.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Absolutely. I'm sure one or two of these companies have said these will use 100% renewable energy to power their datacentres

If wind energy was so good how come every windmill was replaced by a diesel or electric or steam engine .The real issue is we the Irish state will guarantee a power supply that could mean turning off domestic supply to make sure these data centeres dont go dark .We are also guaranteeing the price they will pay for power .Who said that any Irish person will be employed in the construction or operating of this plant .A great example is look at the LUAS extention in Dublin most of the workers were non Irish and it is run by a French company .What is going on here is the government by guarenteeing the price of the electricity for Apple are just creating a way to subsidize the refund of the 13 billion euro we might get off of them .In simple terms the government are trying to find a different way to gravy Apples train .

Wind isn't the only renewable energy out there!!!

These data centres don't actually connect to the main grid, they build their own substations and give excess power back to the grid.

They also need their own Uninterupted Power Supply to keep the centres up and running incase of  a blackout as 24/7/365 power cannot be guaranteed to anybody or company. The government might be able to guarantee a fixed rate for power but that would have to be looked at every year (im sure a contract states that) and im sure all the other companies could look for that too, not just Apple

There is no planning for any sub station with that application Vic the government guarentee supply .That was one of the objections the judge dismissed as it did not apply to the permission to actually build so had no bearing on the granting of permission .There is a lot more to this than first meets the eye that is why there are objections .One of the real big ones is how do we protect these buildings from attack in the event of military action we the Irish have no capacity to defend these important data sources .

You heard leo and Mick say they will not go into coalition with SF I think that is the stupitest statement ever made by any politicians .As I posted on Roys IF and I think it will Brexit will lead to serious issues for the Irish Republic .IF there is a border on this island then SF /IRA whos political ethos is for a united 32 county Republic being excluded from government they will see the only way forward is through the rifle not the ballot box as they are being excluded .IF there is a new war it will be between the IRA and the Irish government just like 1922 but this time there may be other dissilusioned Europeans willing to join the Republicans .Now the Irish government have a real problem our armed forces are unable to defend the state so the Irish government might need help we cannot invite in another foreign army but if we join NATO  or some united European army then we can invite in our allies to help .You can imagine the pressure that the Yanks on behalf of APPLE will apply on the Irish to join NATO .IF FG win the next election and god forbid get a majority Irish neutrality will be done away with . We are selling our state bit by bit until we look like an ant colony with everybody scurrying around trying to please the big business .Time people woke up before its to late .

I'm sorry John but you are wrong on a few things.

Have a read of this.

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/technology/apple-given-go-ahead-to-start-850m-data-centre-in-athenry-1.3253502?mode=amp

**The permission at issue concerned Phase 1, a 23,505sq m single-storey data hall, a logistics and administration centre, ancillary and associated works. The master plan for all phases of the data centre envisaged eight data halls in total plus other development, including an electricity subrstation and 144 standby diesel generators, to be built over 15 years.**

And what if another country decided to bomb these data centres. Within seconds, links would be created to other datacentres worldwide and end users won't know any difference. Its not as if an attack on the centres is an attack on Ireland. Data centres have been here for nearly 10 years and we ain't been attacked yet.
