Councillors who enjoy lentilsoup will say by introducing a pick up or drop off charge at the airport they are encouraging travellers to use alternative transport like busses or taxies ,Councillor who likes bikes said by introducing the charge we hope to reduce traffic traveling to and from the airport this should reduce congestion on the 50 .

"London Stansted is currently the most expensive airport in the UK to drop passengers at the terminal, the RAC said - with prices jumping by 50p to £3.50 for 10 minutes in the last year.
Liverpool's John Lennon airport, the second most expensive, raised drop-off fees by 50% - from £2 for 20 minutes to £3 for 20 minutes, while Birmingham doubled the cost, raising prices from £1 to £2 for 10 minutes."

Apologies in advance fer being Thick, but how can you charge pax fer DROPPING them at the terminal ?
And what's with the Ten or Twenty minutes thing ?

I know I'm wrong on this, but can someone please explain 'Drop-off' fee's to me ?

Those airports have a barrier like the old toll roads you throw in coin or have a tag and you pay to enter the airport complex a bit like a congestion charge. If you leave within the time frame you do not have to top up with an exit fee .Most Airports are private property they charge Airplanes to drop off and pick up passengers so charging vehicles for the same privileged seems like good business .It is another way of reducing congestion at the airport by discouraging travellers from driving when there is other transport available like bus and rail .I know this article was about British airports but we usually follow .I posted earlier in this tread that I think the removal of the free 10 minutes in the carpark for taxies was engineered and some of the Dispatchers will now go to the competition authority as they are being forced to pay a charge that the Kesh drivers do not have to pay to pick up work .Although the lads in the Kesh pay an annual fee they get toilet ,canteen and parking for that fee unlike other taxi drivers who get nothing for their parking fee this might constitute an unfair trading advantage and be uncompedative practice .

I would not be surprised if the DAA actually created this in the run up to christmas when there will be peak demand for taxies in the hope that the Competition Authority rule against them and they can use that ruling to open up access to all taxies and then impose a drop off or pick up fee or both to create more revenue .The environmental impact of empty taxies returning from the airport causes huge congestion and emissions makes absolutely no sense .If we had a proper representative body they would be looking for all drivers to have access to the airport but they are more interested in keeping it a closed shop for the chosen few .Be interesting to see if there is an alternate motive for removing the free time or if the Unions will take it up with the DAA ...I somehow doubt it .

How many cabs were in the car park blocking up the place?I'd say it comes down to losing revenue from lost parking spaces.Theyd have spotted the revenue reduction on the computer.Let mytaxi buy some space if they want it.

Its not just my taxi who are effected  all the Dispatchers who pick up their customers are effected .You could be right that they spotted revenue was down but now they have identified a revenue stream why would they push them into the car park where other passengers want to be  it would be easier to open another Kesh for Dispatchers .It just looks ropey that the DAA would do this unless they have something in mind .I dont suppose the Reps or Unions will put a picket on the port in support of drivers .

I got the same text, same format (surname included)... seems genuine to me, probably just written by a more formal clerk.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Rodent do you not find it strange all drivers had unfettered access to pick ups kesh drivers paid for canteen and toilet facilities and car parking but could claim to have no advantage when picking up but now that non kesh drivers have to pay for access to the carpark could it be claimed that the kesh have an unfair trading advantage and might the competition authority be concerned .I know some of the apps would like access to the port and the DAA might like to rely on the competition authority to end the present arrangement and then introduce a pay per pickup charge for all taxies .

The first driver to be asked for money should just block the exit, like what the crechies do when discommoded. You won't get anywhere with DAA by being tactful. Look at the calibre of villains that hold DAA taxi permits, convicted thieves and drug dealers shielded by their unions.
