Motorists who block the Luas Cross City line could face automatic fines and penalty points through the use of new automated “red light” and yellow box junction cameras.
National Transport Authority (NTA) chief executive Anne Graham has said the NTA will seek new enforcement powers, including the implementation of automated cameras, if motorists do not obey traffic signals and block yellow box junctions.
The cameras, which were introduced on a pilot basis at one Luas junction two years ago, take photographs of vehicles entering the intersection when the light is red. Drivers who break the red light automatically receive three penalty points and a fine of up to €120. Any new cameras would operate in a similar way.

You can only move if there's space to move. They need some strobe lights on the yellow boxes...ya know the ones like cats eyes that flash that are stuck in the road..The city has been altered every few months for the last 20 years so much that not many know where the junctions start and end.

I'll be honest I'm still not sure where the 30 zones are and I'm supposed to be a professional driver.

Fair play to NTA. It's clear that An Garda Siochana have no interest in policing traffic. I drove down O'Connell Street last Saturday night at the maximum permissible speed of 30 kilos/hour and observed 14 taxis race past me. We need a lot more enforcement cameras to police traffic lights, speed, continuous white lines, etc, etc. I'm convinced some motorists think yellow boxes are only there to make the roads look pretty.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Might attract a Garda who might issue a fixed penalty notice... Long shot, I know.
