To be fair, we didn't do a great job during our short period of independence. Our culture dictates that we need overlords. We're better suited to circumventing regulation than devising/enforcing it.

Can't argue there. The Normans didn't fare too well over here though it seems. The gargling thingy they introduced to the Celts backfired on them ultimately. Poor auld Huguenots got some comeuppance too. Thing is now, we seem to have lost the cohort of males necessary to fight...18-35 yr olds have either left or are gay.
