Driving instructors often use that lane to teach pupils how to drive, because when cars are parked up on one side then ya need to pull in your wing mirror just to get up it and it's all up-hill. The driving instructor's thinking being that if his pupil can get up 98 street then he can get up anywhere !
There is a lot of streets/lanes in Cork with a lot of history behind them, none more so than Fair lane.
