New vehicle to licence, no motor tax question.
« on: February 02, 2018, 10:57:31 am »
I'm going to be booking my new motor in for SGS, but it currently has no tax. I'm guessing it needs tax for NCT, but can I tax it as a taxi, instead of privately. Difference in motor tax is huge, and don't want to tax it privately as that would be very expensive.

No, it's a second hand car. It hasn't been taxed since last year.

You might have to tax it privately for the minimum 3 months to get you through the SGS,then when it's passed out and you have your paper licence and when the motor tax is next due(after 3 months)just bring the VLC and your taxi licence into the motor tax office with the required change of use/particulars form(RF 111) filled in,they'll tax it as a taxi, take the VLC from you and Revenue will send you out a new VLC.

Yeah I didn't think it needed road tax.Just NCT and insurance for the vehicle.. Doesn't mention road tax on the NTA website.Ring them anyway you might save yerself a few quid.

I dont think a vehicle has to be taxed for the nct .Plenty of garages offer cars for test doubt they would add the expense of road tax to the sales price .If you need tax to drive it on a public road drive near the venue then push it in .

You must have the following in order to book your Licence Renewal Assessment:

Be tax cleared with Revenue
An insurance certificate
An NCT certificate

So i'm probably wrong with the motor tax bit...cos i haven't got a notion....but everything else i said would still apply.

It doesn't need a tax disc for NCT or initial suitability test.

Thanks for the advise lads, wasn't sure and didn't want to blow 400blips. 94 is much more reasonable. Have my tax clearance, Nct and insurance. Happy days. Got rid of the taxi, couldn't afford the insurance anymore, getting my own limo plate.
