dirty money

great new 6 part documentary on white collar crime up on Netflix there.
first episode is about the volkswaggen emission scandal.
the cars in America were programmed to know when they were being NCTed.
when the car's were stationary or when diagnostic equipment was attached the car would know and go in to best behaviour mode.
the krauts denied it till the 25th hour until one of the head honcho fellas came before the hearing committee in Washington when the jig was up to explain the emissions cheating equipment.
with a straight face he told the panel; ah yeah, it musta been a couple of yunflas acting the bollix on the 'puters back in the factory and it's after getting in to all the cars.
since the huns rule Europe they've gotten away with the same scam here because they fudged a piece of legislation in Brussels saying that if they were to fix the cars, it would cause even more pollution or some bollix.

I don't see why VW created such a "scandal". It seems perfectly reasonable that modern cars should behave differently when stationary or when diagnostic equipment is attached. Surely it's up to the regulatory authorities to devise tests that properly simulate driving conditions.

Watched this latstnight...very good..
but we're not really getting the full story. No only did the VW lads mess up but when they were caught they reprogrammed the defeat device to deactivate when the steering wheel was turned thinking they could fool the yanks again. The software engineer got locked up for it in the end.I wouldn't buy a washer off them.
