Going to get expensive to go to work
« on: February 12, 2018, 10:51:52 am »
Anybody using the M50 to get to work is going to pay .I posted this years ago on Roys .If you drive the 50 you will notice a gantry before every exit and just after every entry .They will hold cameras and you will pay per section of the Road you use .I was at a FG meeting where local councillors wanted to know why only people using the bit between Palmerstown and Blanch had to pay while everybody else went free on the same road  https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/m50-drivers-facing-more-toll-points-in-bid-to-tackle-traffic-congestion-36592474.html

That old chestnut pops up every few years. Obviously it makes sense to use tolls to manage demand but Govt generally consign the proposal to the TODO list under improving public transport alternatives.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Leo is safe now in his constituency but to be a leader he has to bring in a running mate .Cry foul on behalf of the Poor voters from Blanch and Castlenock as they are victim's of the bridge toll unlike that shower starting the trip in Blanch heading north or Palmerstown heading south all paying nothing .Its only fair after all that everyone pays a little and not a few paying a lot .Force them into the city collect congestion charges end game force them on to public transport .Thats the model for transport 2030 .but it starts now .

You and me will get our retirement out of it .I see all the congestion charges and road blocks as a positive thing it makes private motoring a pain in the hole and those with coin will use a taxi the proletariat and plebs will go bus and tram with less cars on the road taxies become more efficient so more user friendly .Its all swings and roundabouts .

They really should be looking at developing the Go Car model. Every housing scheme and flats complex should have communal cars available. In the fullness of time those cars will drive themselves, improving efficiency and road safety. It's an environmentally friendly cultural change that motor manufacturers are already committed to. Win - win.

If it happens, it's going to be expensive for the person paying the taxi fare; not the taxi driver?
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

Bit IF, they invariably put it off until reliable public transport alternatives are implemented.
