Actually 40 MPG isn't as bad as I thought. Just done a conversion on Google and it equates to 5.88 litres/100 Kilos .... pretty much the same as my MKII 1.9TDI Octy (usually 5.6 - 5.9). As I work eveninigs/nights and tend to potter around within the speed limit I'd probably squeeze a bit more out of it than the average amateur private motorist. Good advice on the glass BTW, TD... something one could easily overlook.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

FFS, I converted from US MPG - 40 MPG (Imperial) equates to 7.07 litres/100 kilos - it would be a step backwards after all, bollix!

You're all being very posh  lol How about this!

https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda-octavia-2012-1-6tdi/18087300

3 x 2012 high mileage Octavias (~200k Km or miles?) for €4,250 each
From Palmerstown Trade Cars
HIGH MILEAGE BUT DRIVING PERFECT WITH NO FAULTS...CASH PRICE ADVERTISED

Looks like it's being pitched as a trade sale but I read over on boards.ie (different topic) that you can't do trade sales to the public?

Add in a timing belt and/or clutch (to be sure to be sure) to bring it up to €5,000 and you'd get 3 or 4 years out of it for approx €1,500/year?

That's true. They'll probably give you a SIMI trade sale form to sign. Write "dealing as consumer" on it and gauge their reaction.

Rats  I recon with practice you could up the M.P.G.After getting some advice/info on Hybrids from Halpos last year,my wife bought a Yaris Hybrid.I can get 80 m.p.g. out of it with no problem. This is very close to the factory quoted 83 m.p.g.Even the missus with her lead foot can get 70m.p.g. Lexus claim you can get 55 m.p.g out of the 300h so 45-50 should be possible once you get used to it.

And remember you would be driving around in a very comfortable motor.

Not bad but it’s an import from Japan, even though the ad says it’s registered in Ireland

If you can't trust an O'Connell, who can you trust?
