Tax on Married Taxi drivers ?

I'm not great on the whole Tax thing, I give my figures/receipts to my accountant each year and it is all done fer me.

What I'm wondering is that if I was Married would I be better off Tax-wise ?

The reason I ask is that both myself and a Taxi mate of mine are both divorced and each with a bucket-load of kids,
we are both (or at least were in our youth) red-blooded hetrosexuals bordering on homophobic.
If we were to marry each other which is now allowed in Eire (I didn't see any reference that sez ya have to be gay
in order to marry a gay man) would we qualify fer a better Tax bracket ?

More seriousely, it might be a proper kick in de Bollocks to the system if Two Hetrosexual/Homophobic males were to marry each other in order to be put in a better Tax bracket.

I don't think there's much to gain.The only benefit my missus gets is when I assign my unused tax credits to her.Last few years it's added up to nearly two grand back from the revenue.Which oddly enough is the same ammount as my tax bill.

Marriage only helps lower your tax liability in certain circumstances, namely, if one spouse stops working his/her partner may claim the remaining tax credits but excluding his/her personal allowance, the second most common way is if one partner earns significantly more than the other, they can take the bulk of the credits to offset tax at the higher rate.
For a married taxi couple who earn similar amounts, it’s pointless.

If you have kids under 18 you're already getting the equivalent of a married man's allowance (or should be) as you're entitled to Single Parent Family Allowance or whatever it's called these days. It's Revenue policy to grant that allowance to both separated spouses. Even if you don't have kids under 18 marriage would only be beneficial if one party has unused credits / low rate band capacity and the other party has sufficient income to use the same.

From a CGT/Inheritance Tax perspective you could make significant savings if you share a Principal Private Residence. However, civil partners have the same entitlement and those co-habiting get the same treatment provided relevant wills have been written.
