Taxis across Dublin are being targeted and robbed by opportunistic thieves.

Robbers are specifically targeting taxi cabs with the expectation that they will be loaded with cash.

Noel Bradshaw, 47, who lives in Clarehall had his taxi broken into in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Noel told Dublin Live: "They smashed the driver window and they took the coin holder and left I think.

"Luckily I only had about a euro in it at the time so I wasn't too bad.

"I know another chap living close to me who drives a taxi and he was also hit.

"They stole his dashcam and a few things like that."

Mr Bradshaw maintains that this is a common problem for taxi drivers all over Dublin.

He added: "I know there has been a lot(of similar incidents) in the Dongahmede and Clarehall areas lately.

"The taxi stickers are a prime target for thieves.

"I'm in a whatsapp group with a load of taxi drivers and it's happening to a lot of them.

"It's always been a problem but I do think it is a lot more frequent lately.

"To be honest I was almost waiting for it to happen to me. I was aware of it so that's why I didn't have anything valuable in the car.

"Nowadays you just need to know not to leave stuff in the car."

Garda figures show that in 2018, there has been a sharp increase in thefts from taxis in nearby neighborhood.

In the Coolock sub-district there has been an increase of 45% in thefts from taxis between January and March compared to the same period last year.

48 thefts from taxis were reported in this period in the area compared to 33 the previous year.

there was 16 private cars broken in to in one night down the road in portmarnock 2 weeks ago.
a couple of months ago around 3 in the morning a stolen car crashed in to a taxi in portmarnock village and caught fire. The taxi was burned to a crisp. Apparently there was a jungle bunny seen running from the scene but i never got confirmation.
