Tipping
« on: May 21, 2018, 07:07:27 pm »
It's well known in the taxi game that tipping has become a lot less.
Working class people tend to be be more generous than their entitled counterparts in the so called middle class.

Can anyone confirm that tips increase exponentially when you invest a shed load in a newer car?

Silver I think youll agree the Dublin people are in a class of their when it comes to tipping.they are very generous indeed.now both foreigners, and culchies always wait for their change.when I get ethera foreigner,or a culchie in the car ihust know im not getting a tip.what pisses me off about foreigners is,they always say they want to be like the irish, yet they every fukking short cut, dont tip,and its onn with the google maps as soon as they get in to make sure you are not taking them the scenic route.these are the same fukkers who expect, and get big tips  when working in their restraunts

Always been that way.
Working out of Coolock, Ballymun and Finglas, the tips would pay your freight.
Southsiders assume they're going to be stroked, probably because that's how they got where they are.
Try not to disappoint.
Also Google is utterly useless around the city.
For the youngsters, offer the option of Do You want to go the  Google.way, or my way?

If.thwy choose Google...put the extra money towards a holiday. 8)

Different cultures. There was a few tourist guides posted on Roy's which advised visitors against tipping taxi drivers. My Italian friends always criticise me for tipping in restaurants over there, particularly in family run establishments where, I'm told, a tip can actually be taken as being mildly insulting.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

All the Chippers in the lovely seaside town of Balbriggan frown on tipping. It's akin to saying "Luigi, still can't afford a sit down restaurant?" 8)

I don't use chippers often these days but I've never tipped in one.

Just curious.  There's a guy who  changed his High and dry Sinata for a 151 Merc, yet still parks on the double yellow lines and in the junction box outside the Centra on Dame Street.
Just seems mad to spend all that money, and still begging illegally.

When ya think about it the industry fell apart nearly ten years ago. There are drivers out there who probably never bothered using legal ranks. They don't even realise what they're doing. There's still a couple of lads who will wait down in Heuston on the platform even though the rest of the city is hopping. They're the type of blokes who drive past an empty rank to park illegally.

They are also snatching up at the airport.they are there every night just passed terminal 2. The airport police dont seem to give a bollox. The most blatent of all is,outside the old central bank ,and the shop just beside the fosters .two offical ranks within  spitting distance of these snatching cunts, and nobody on ether rank  has the balls to challenge them for stealing their work.its the most UNPROFESSIONALLY RUN industry I have ever seen

Few lads from VIP taxis parking outside offices on Burlington road(beside mespil rank) and the Fitzwilliam hotel on the green pretending they're waiting on jobs. Doesn't seem to bother anyone so they get away with it.Some are old timers too.

The only times I've used official stands since entry liberalisation in 2000 was during the couple of summers I worked the day shift. When I worked Swords there were no official stands and the, since decommissioned, official stand in the beautiful seaside resort town of balbriggan carried a "Hackney Only" plate - I kid you not, a fully marked and signed TAXI rank was designated Hackney Only. However, unofficial stands existed long before blaxis and long before entry liberalisation. The Central Bank, Westmoreland St, Nassau St and Fleet St were used in the 90s, Harcourt Street was used since Jackson's opened, then there was Leeson St, Camden St, etc, etc, etc... not to mention cars queued at suburban public houses.

I recently noticed an official looking sign on the Harry Byrnes Unofficial stand (Howth Rd) instructing queuing drivers to act in a civil manner with due respect for local residents or some such.
