drink driving is good

Driving while even moderately dehydrated could put you in the same risk category as someone on the drink-drive limit.

The current heatwave makes research into the link between dehydration (even a mild form of it) and concentration by Loughborough University hugely relevant.

It found that drivers who took just 25ml of water an hour made twice the number of mistakes compared with those who took enough liquid.

The findings, published some time back, have since prompted experts to say that dehydration is an unrecognised danger for drivers. The increase in errors due to driver dehydration was found to be similar to what would have been the case if someone was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Increased driving errors included dangerous lane drifting and late braking - a sure sign of diminished concentration.

It is a timely, if slightly bizarre, reminder to all drivers during these heatwave days, with scorching temperatures forecast, that if you don't drink enough water you are likely to drive as badly as if you've consumed too much alcohol.

So get those water bottles on board.

I reckon sunglasses are the biggest cause of bad driving in this weather. When I used to drive the motorbike and some gobshite pulled out on top of me they were always wearing sunnys.Whenever I've worn them in the car I can't make out fuk all in me mirrors and my eyesight is perfect.

We probably should be wearing those yellow tinted ones the military use for driving. They don't look cool but if yer wearing cheap sunnys all they do is reduce yer visibility and make everything darker.

Also folks drving without air con to save a few cents doesn't help.

If you have to waste all this good weather working be careful. I read that the roads are melting in some parts of the country.

Believe it or not rats I was in kilkenny last night at a Ronnie oSullivan v Mark Allen snooker exhibition and on the way home they were gritting the roads???
Apparently it had to be done because the roads were melting and the grit was spread on it to give you some grip.

I believe it, Tony. It was reported in the Indefuckinpendent, I think. If it's in the papers it must be true!

Bad for the lungs... but then, I guess breathing petrol and diesel fumes all day doesn't help.

I read a report of some queer bashing down your way, Tony. Apparently a "man" got a smack of a hurley when he tried to defend his "husband".

I read another report of a "man" with a "husband" given a slap on the wrist for possession of child pornography, in Galway if memory serves... leaving him and his "husband" free to adopt Children. Maybe abortion on demand isn't such a bad thing.
