Have you noticed the various pax falling over themselves trying NOT to claim  kudos for the rescue ? Everyone`s commented except the actual dive team.
Ide imagine if yu takin sedative.... Then use of breathing apparatus wud be out of the question?    Anyway I font know why anyone wud go into a cave.... The coach shud get a big bollocking......
The port tunnel often gives me panics attack
Just re read this thread.
You`re right Octy, sedatives and diving is a no go, but there was no way the kids would have remained calm and become a danger to both themselves and the escorting diver.
However, the masks they used on the kids were what`s called positive pressure full face masks, which means there`s a constant flow of air into the mask as opposed to a demand valve variant. The demand valve does exactly what it says, it delivers air ONLY when the diver inhales. As the kids were sedated and breathing softly, the demand valve variant may have suffocated them.
The positive pressure FFM also has the bonus of helping push water out of the mask which the rescue divers couldn`t do on a demand valve mask.

I'm not too sure what you mean by "Crust Grabbers" Marky ?
But if I think it is what you mean, then I reckon it is a tad harsh.

I would have just thought them how to dive..good movie though.First time I heard about those positive pressure masks was on here. Thanks BHT.. the movie didn't really explain that part so I was wondering how they didn't drown.

Learning to dive and navigating through a zero viz washing machine of a cave system is akin to doing your driving theory and then winning the Formula 1 championship. As cave diving goes, those guys are the best of the best . They are all members of the Cave Diving Group in the UK and the top guys are evaluated for rescue and recovery dives based on experience and ability. Neither the Yanks or the Thai Navy Seals have or had the skillsets to do what the lads done. Sedating the kids was pure genius because it worked. But as they said, it was a body recovery if they didn`t try.

As I said way back, if the Navy Seals stow their egos and let the lads run the show , the kids have a chance. Finding the kids was a big exposure to the Seals as to how good the lads were/are.
