P.C. Bullshite ! if'n anyone ever deserved a seat at a World cup final,
then it is these boyz and all their rescuers.

It was a global group effort, everyone from the foreign cave diving experts to the Thai navy seals and hospital staff and many more from all over the planet (to include Limerick) who helped and all those at home who kept them in their prayers. Well Done !
It certainly was, however, the plan was conceived by  , maybe, 4 divers.  The plan would then be put in front of the core team to tear it down , look for flaws and restructured until everyone was happy. One diver would assign dive teams , support divers , time table etc. Another would make sure the surface support was operating as per dive plan. It was a team effort with a very good command structure at the wheel.

When we`d go for a dive , we`d have a shore marshall with details of number of pax on board, an emergency vehicle clearly marked and parked un obstructed. 2 local doctors numbers and addresses, a helicopter landing site scoped, chamber numbers and route to nearest chamber and we`d let the local coastguard radio where we were going, how long we`d be there and when we`d be back. That was just for a recreational dive. Plan the dive and dive the plan .

Have to agree Tony. Can't see why the general public gets so involved in these unmitigated fuck-ups all the time. The buzzwords always being "the community is in shock" and "they were doing what they loved" etc etc...Facebook and false empathy...the age of Narcissus etc. Pity half the empty-nuts didn't call these mongs out for what they are........a massive drain on emergency services and a total waste of taxpayers money.

This case might be an exception but somehow I feel it is an opportunity for some chancer to sell his story. As Keith Richards said about the Chilean Miner saga: "Said to the wife, give us a Chilean Miner in bed love, will ya"...Says she.."WTF's that?"...Says he...."Go down me shaft and stay there till Xmas".

Here`s the scary bit, a few hundred euro of diving gear helping you breathe underwater depends entirely on a 50 cent o-ring staying intact.

Sounds like most marriages actually. ;)

Have you noticed the various pax falling over themselves trying NOT to claim  kudos for the rescue ? Everyone`s commented except the actual dive team.

Food for thought... went scuba diving in Spain a couple of times and there seemed to be very little planning, one just assumes the instructors are adequately qualified and know what they're doing.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Yeah, that`s the normal assumption. Every dive boat should have O2 and O2 regulator, divers down flag, med kit, parachute flares and marine radio and it`s ok to check/ask the operator.

If the operator gets snotty over asking, I wouldn`t bother going out with them .
FYI
all marine radio stations can respond in English. The emergency channel is 16 . If the operator is unable to use radio, the calls are
Pan Pan x 3 , this is Ratcatcher ( boat name , wait for response ) for mechanical assistance ( boat towed back to harbour)
Pan Pan Medico x 3 (wait for response ) for medical assistance , usually lifeboat/ helicopter lift.
Mayday x 3 ( wait for response ) for life threatening scenario.
Just handy to know info.
