If you have a smartphone, download a few podcasts lasting 30mins and 60mins.  And go walking. Start small and build up to 30mins and then 60mins.
RTE Documentary On One are good for the 60min ones --> https://www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone/

Also, have a look at the 'couch to 5k' movement --> https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/couch-to-5k-week-by-week/
9 weeks and week 1 starts...
Quote
Week 1
For your 3 runs in week 1, you will begin with a brisk 5-minute walk, then alternate 1 minute of running and 1-and-a-half minutes of walking, for a total of 20 minutes.
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

John your right. motovation is the key to it,but like tony says it does get easy i do a 10 k walk every morning, but i suppose it can become additive to.if i miss a morning for some reason, i am kicking myself. but you have taken the first step in realizing you need to do this, that should be motovation enough.  sometimes its no harm to be scared of the consuqunces  if we DONT take nessesary steps to assress our physical health. best of luck John, and if you ever feel like walking, and your in the clontarf area, give us a shout

I'm probably in the same boat as you.  No harm in starting small and working up.

If I try walking, it f*cks up my shins and back but I don't get out of breath.  Too much belly fat and not enough muscle!  If/when I start, I'll do 10-15 mins until I get used to walking.  I won't be running/jogging for a long time!

Swapped smoking for vaping (e-cigs) a few weeks back so still getting used to that.

Swimming is the best excercise john.
It works every muscle and you won't feel as if you've just had a big workout since the water is constantly cooling your body.

@ John M, I'd go along with DMG on this, but take it very easy, I mean really, really easy.
There is no need to run, a decent diet + walking and swimming should suffice.

I'm not very over-weight at just over 14 stone, muchly helped by my eating disorder which means that I very seldom if ever get hungry.
But I am even more unfit than you, a shower/shave and toothbrush would have me out of breath, de Ryde would probably see me off !

@ Watty, if'n your new to the vape market, the only advice I would have fer you is to buy an expensive vape (about 90 Euro), all the cheap ones are shite and not worth a Fook and will piss you off to the extent that you will go back on the fags. IMO.

10 lbs in a month is standard John...why are you complaining? It takes time and a lot of patience.....swimming as I said is the recommended exercise. Walking will shift it too..........you need to realise it should take 1 yr to shift 5 stone and if you lose it quickly...you'll put it back on. Weight Watchers makes a fortune from repeat customers. Brother lost 9 stone in a yr with them and put 5 back on when he couldn't keep to their ludicrous eating plans....exercise and be patient.

You lost 10 lbs so you have broken the routine. Dalymount's regime is by far the best and least damaging to the joints...10k a day is great exercise. You should try hitting that after about 6 months. Just walk 2 k a day or so for a while...never mind the rashers etc...keep the fuck away from beer and bread. Cycling is for people who are already reasonably fit as is the gym. Just stop thinking about it....walk 6 days a week for 2 ks and then build it up over time. Swimming doesn't harm the joints like cycling does and it gives lean sinewy muscle....you will be laughing in 6 months if you stick it.

+1 on that. Don’t buy a cheap VIP yoke, it’ll leak on you and piss you off. Get something like an eleaf or pico, and a tank to go on top of it.
It can turn into a hobbie
